Playboy Enterprises has named Edward S. Lang to the newly-created post of senior vice president and general manager of the company’s mobile wireless efforts.
The appointment, announced today, means Lang will be responsible for the global strategy, expansion and oversight of Playboy’s wireless businesses as part of the company’s Entertainment Group.
Lang, who will be based in Los Angeles, will report to Jim Griffiths, senior executive vice president of Playboy Enterprises and president of the Entertainment Group.
“The Mobile business is one of the company’s fastest growing revenue streams and an important aspect of Playboy’s strategy as we aim to provide Playboy content to our customers across all entertainment platforms,” Griffiths said in a statement.
“We are pleased to have Ed on board with his extensive knowledge of the mobile business to pursue new opportunities and accelerate the expansion of this business.”
Lang had been vice president of mobile initiatives with Sony Corp. where he helped extend its mobile business through market and product development and through strategic partnerships.
Lang had also been chief operating officer of a mobile marketing and production company in New York where he helped launch mobile content for the music magazines Vibe and Spin as well as the TV show “America’s Next Top Model.
He had also served as executive director for mobile content at America Online where he was involved in projects involving Britney Spears, the movies The Lord of the Rings and Matrix Reloaded.
