Playboy Can't Use ASU Logo

Arizona State University can’t keep students from posing in adult magazines, but it can keep publications from using the university’s logo, the Arizona Republic reported.

After ASU women were featured in Playboy magazine’s “Girls of the Pac-10” issue last month, ASU Student Body Present Yaser Alamoodi suggested that the student code of conduct be used to prevent models from participating in future issues.

“I’m not against people posing for this magazine by itself, but what I’m against is girls who pose with ASU running with a theme throughout the picture,” he told the newspaper.

Nude pictorials and a recent ranking as one of the country’s top party schools may prevent people from taking ASU seriously when it comes to academics, Alamoodi said in the story.

Alamoodi said administrators told him the student code couldn’t be used against consenting adults participating in off-campus photo shoots. However, ASU does want to keep magazines from using university logos in sexually suggestive ways.

Virgil Renzulli, ASU vice present of public affairs, said the university has sent Playboy a cease-and-desist letter in the past.

“Playboy understands that they may say that these girls are from ASU, but they can’s make it look like it’s an endorsement of the university, Renzulli told the Republic.
