Phoenix Releasing will merge with a new company, Lava Releasing, according to Phoenix owner Bob East.
In contrast to Phoenix, which currently represents several pro-am and amateur-style lines, Lava will focus primarily on international, high-end gonzo and feature productions, shot specifically for the company, from Slave 2 Lust, based in Miami, and Frenzy Films.
The first releases are scheduled for release in May.
Lava will continue to distribute all of the Phoenix lines, such as Ghost Pro, Shane-TV, Mr. X Productions, and the series Heidi Fleiss-Secrets of the Hollywood Madam.
East, who is a partner in the new company, told AVN.com, “Phoenix has been a great challenge after Odyssey Group Video. But with Lava our plan is to become a major player in the market with top lines, from top directors, and the best sales staff in the industry. Branding of our producers’ lines directly to the consumer will be our main marketing focus.”
To that end, he said, Lava is interested in talking to “seasoned professionals with both one-stop and distributor sales experience.”
