Gay adult magazine publisher Specialty Publications' (SPI) parent company PlanetOut Inc. eliminated the position of SPI President on Friday.
Caryn Goldberg, with LPI Media and SPI since 1993 and president of SPI since 2000, is no longer with the company and she will not be replaced.
During her 14-year tenure, Ms. Goldberg advanced from Advertising Director of LPI to Publisher, then President of Specialty Publications. Among her many accomplishments are the creation of [2] and Unzipped magazines, Unzipped Video, and BuyGay.com.
SPI Managing Director Dave Dempsey, who will assume some of Ms. Goldberg's responsibilities, told GAYVN the President position had been formulated on print media rather than digital, which is where the company is headed.
"We have great respect for Caryn and her accomplishments. She has positioned us for the next stage of our transformation from print to digital," Dempsey said.
When reached for comment Ms. Goldberg, a legend in gay adult publishing, said it was too soon to reveal future plans except to say, "I'm available!"
