At the Billing Update seminar yesterday afternoon the general consensus of the state of the industry was that there was “nothing new” going on. Normally one might think of such a statement (made by NetBilling’s Mitch Farber in his opening speech) as a bad thing, but here it was good news. The reason? The adult Webmaster community has taken a beating over the last year by Visa and Mastercard, who are tightening their restrictions to fight fraud. So in recent times, big changes have resulted in folding companies, loss of income and the inability for many of the little guys to stay afloat. So assuring everyone that the credit card giants have no future plans in store to alter the stability of the adult Website industry and that the climate was once again stable was indeed very, very good news. That’s not to say that there ain’t some issues worth discussing (friendly fraud, check verification, alternative billing methods, etc), but for the most part people seemed to be quite happy that the choppy waters appear to be smoothing out a bit. So in this case, no news is indeed good news.
