Nina Hartley Joins Masturbate-A-Thon

SAN FRANCISCO - Orgasm and squirting contests. An exhibitionist's stage. A furrie barn… and Nina Hartley with commentary on it all.

No, this isn't your latest wet dream; it's the Masturbate-a-Thon, where people can come together to help raise money for the sex-ed and sex-safety advocates at the Center for Sex and Culture. CSC, the only publicly available, non-profit sex education center in the United States, has raised more than $25,000 in the six years of hosting live masturbation events.

The star-studded Masturbate-a-Thon is like a walk-a-thon—but a lot more fun. It was first started as a private event held by Good Vibrations, who founded National Masturbation Month 12 years ago. Participants generate revenue by getting pledges for every minute they masturbate or for each orgasm claimed. Funds raised at this live event will go to supporting the Center of Sex and Culture's efforts to promote sex-positive cultural change.

These efforts include providing non-judgmental, sex-positive sexuality education through classes, gatherings, and hands-on skills building events; as well as maintaining a publicly-accessible library of materials that have long been shunned by traditional booksellers, libraries and museums. The CSC aims to be the most collaborative and diverse space of its kind anywhere.

The events at the Masturbate-a-thon are as diverse as the CSC itself. There will be on- and off-camera areas to play, as well as contests (longest squirt distance, longest time masturbating, most orgasms, and tag team fun). There will also be various types of exhibitionist zones, including a Nudes News web cast, hosted by Nina Hartley and Carol Queen along with other sexual celebrities.

The event will be held on Saturday, May 26 at the Kink.com residence, the Porn Palace (415 Jessie Street) in San Francisco, from 4 p.m. till midnight for regular participants, and starting at 2 p.m. for those competing in longevity contests.

Getting involved is simple:

Masturbate at the event: There will be both on- and-off camera areas for self-play. Have your friends pledge to donate for every minute you masturbate or every orgasm you have. Be as exhibitionist as you'd like, though there will be plenty of entertainment to keep everyone going. If you would like to be considered a performer, you will be promoted along with the Masturbate-a-thon in the press and given prominent placement in their advertising and website. All participants will get a Good Vibes "goodie" for proudly showing their support, with the top five masturbators receiving an assortment of Good Vibrations gifts. There are no judges for the Masturbate-A-Thon, which is private and conducted strictly on the honor system. Sign up by clicking here.

"Who'd want to cheat?" exclaimed Dr. Carol Queen, author and Good Vibrations' Staff Sexologist. "It's so much fun to masturbate. It's not like you won't do it and then say you did."

Host a Masturbate-a-Thon in your own city: If you'd like to host your own event, contact the CSC for details. Sex activist, writer, and YNOT.com Editor, has been hosting her own Masturbate-a-thon in Portland, Oregon, for the past six years, her next event is this Saturday, May 19, starting at 7:00 p.m. She has declared this year's Portland Masturbate-a-thon "James Bond need-to-know time," and it will include events such as silent auctions, an S/M play space, "Casting Couch Exhibitionism." The only hard, fast rule for hosting a satellite Masturbate-a-thon is that 100% of the proceeds must go to charity. Contact the CSC for more information.

Masturbate from home: Feel free to download the pledge form and do-it-yourself from home, either by the minute or by orgasm. If you are in the industry, bring your own web audience into play, getting them to either pledge or participate on their own. You have all day to achieve your masturbation goals. There are just a few rules (like being over 18)— read them here.

Watch the fun: Come be a spectator at the event. You can get more details about cost, and rules associated with being a voyeur at the event, by reading the spectators page. Or, if you can't come to the event itself, watch from home on the live video feed hosted by RedHandedPorn.com that will be available on the Masturbate-a-Thon.com site.

Donate or pledge to the event: If you'd like to support as others "come for a good cause," you can pledge from the Masturbate-a-thon website. Companies that would like to sponsor the event with money or products will be promoted on the Masturbate-a-thon website and included in the event's promotional materials. Or, you can donate directly to the CSC, which is a 501c(3) non-profit.

Become a Sponsor: Companies interested in being promoted alongside the event have several opportunities. They can be a cash sponsor; donate food, sex toys, or safe-sex supplies for the event or the center; donate sexual products for to be placed into solo sex scenes; or buy a live stream of the event for your adult site. All donations are tax deducible; click here for more information.

Put together a masturbation team: Strut your masturbation stuff at the event on a team, and be listed in the sponsor's area of every page of the Masturbate-A-Thon website. Each team member will be listed on the pledge page, and competitions between teams will be encouraged during the event. Click here for more information.

In addition to being promoted at the event, there will be a DVD made from the live video feed that will promote sponsored products. All proceeds of the event go the Center for Sex and Culture.

"The Masturbate-A-Thon is a fun and freaky, voyeuristic and exhibitionistic festival," Hartley told AVN. "Where else can I get my fill of people masturbating as far as the eyte can see? I will be there with bells on and panties off!"
