A line of five new Internet and e-mail security software titles was introduced May 10 by StompSoft, Inc. The titles are Spyware X-terminator, Virus X-terminator, Spam X-terminator, Firewall X-treme, and Parental Control X-treme.
"The demand for Internet and e-mail security continues to rise, and given our previous success with our backup and recovery software titles that protect our customers' digital data, moving into security was a natural progression," said StompSoft president Michael Hummell, announcing the new line, also known as the X Family.
"We've developed five new security software solutions that protect users from spam and malicious e-mails containing dangerous worms and viruses; guard against unsuspecting spyware; and offer better control of unwanted content, so parents can ensure a safe online experience for their children. With these five new titles, users will enjoy maximum security, and maximum protection."
Spyware X-terminator ($29.95) is built to name, block, and remove spyware programs that often include Trojan horses, adware agents causing pop-up ad barrages, dialers, cookies tracking online movements, browser hijackers, and keyboard loggers nosing around for passwords and other sensitive information. Automatic updates keep the spyware definition database current and users protected from recurring installations, StompSoft said.
Virus X-terminator ($39.95) offers protection with what StompSoft calls "sandbox" technology that "identifies and quarantines viruses, Trojan horses, worms, and other malicious code before a virus definition is available," and works in the background unobtrusively, giving personal computers round-the-clock protection. Automatic updates here, too, include e-mails to customers warning about new outbreaks and risk levels. Both Virus and Spyware X-terminators are available now.
Spam X-terminator ($29.95) joins POP3 e-mail accounts and Microsoft Outlook/Outlook Express clients to help users pick off, isolate, and block spam before the inbox gets jammed. "Users can view suspected spam in the 'quarantine' folder to confirm that the suspected e-mail is indeed spam before it's marked for deletion," StompSoft said. This product will be available in June.
Firewall X-treme's ($39.95) protection involves making your computer look virtually invisible on the Net. If you're on a network, StompSoft said, it can watch and block hackers from getting into your network, and warn when an intruder is trying to break in, not to mention blocking select Websites from display. This program is available now.
Finally, Parental Control X-treme ($39.95) will let you set up monitoring filters and blocking capabilities to keep what you don't want your children to see from being seen, StompSoft said, with reporting capabilities letting you see all sites your kids have visited or tried to visit, and the ability to monitor chat sessions by way of keystroke captures. This will be available in June.
