Jocks Studios, a division of the Falcon Family of Companies, announced Tuesday that Getting It Straight (JVP 118), their upcoming 2004 release featuring newly acquired Falcon exclusive Barrett Long, will drop on January 28. The feature was directed by current Falcon director of development Michael Youens.
Youens, who oversees all behind-the-scenes aspects of Falcon, Jocks, and Mustang features, made his debut as a director after what he recalls a long period of proving himself. “Directing a movie was always something I wanted to do,” Youens told AVN.com, “but early on, [former Falcon president] John Rutherford told me I had to pay my dues.”
After several years of finding new talent, developing scripts, scouting locations, and scheduling productions, Youens was given the go-ahead to helm his own feature.
The film tracks a group of gay friends who have “queer eyes for the straight guys” in their lives, and who bet on which of them can be the first to bed a hetero. Scripted by porn performer Chris Steele, it was, Youens says, “a really difficult script to tackle for my first film.”
He oversaw the four-day shoot under the tutelage of Chi Chi LaRue, who says that Youens more than rose to the occasion. “I knew that he could do it, because he’s been in the business almost as long as I have,” the porn empress said. “The first two days, he was really nervous and a little insecure, but by the fourth day he’d really found his stride as a director, and I just sat back in another room and watched. By the end, he was fully aware and fully in control of the set, and it’s a really good movie. He wanted to do it, and he pulled it off.”
For his part, Youens maintains that he was nervous, but adds that by the end of the shoot, he “felt like I was a natural. I don’t mean to toot my own horn, but I just felt like this is what I was born to do. And I’m ready to go with it full force.”
In addition to Long, who makes his debut as a Falcon exclusive in the feature, Getting It Straight co-stars fellow exclusives Tyler Gunn, Josh Weston, and Max Diesel, as well as Rod Barry, Danny Vox, Rocky, Jason Ridge, and newcomers Christoph Scharff and Rafael Alencar.
