Bizarre Video has signed a distribution deal with upstart studio Nectar Entertainment, agreeing to push Nectar's "eroticore" line of adult videos in both the United States and Europe.
Bizarre also distributes Gwen Media titles as well as their own line of fetish titles. Nectar will be their first foray into distributing non-fetish porn.
"There's so many people doing regular stuff that we didn't want to get into the competition, owner Keith Gordon told AVN.com. "But when I saw the Nectar stuff it really stood out and I knew we could sell that. It's so different from every other adult product out there that with our sales force I thought we'd be a good compliment."
Nectar's top product line are titles by Marty Zion, a director with an impressive mainstream resume (Zion is, of course, his porn name), that integrate fresh faces with some of today's top performers for sex scenes shot on elaborate sets and original music scores. Shades of Red and Mystified are the two titles released by Zion so far.
"What I like is that they are going with a bigger budget, and with new faces. The music is unbelievable. I'd like to make a CD of every soundtrack so people can listen to it in their car. The editing is very MTV, very much like a music video. It's just a great product," Gordon said.
"My salespeople are very excited about it because it's an Andrew Blake type product, but hipper," Gordon added.
And Nectar Entertainment president Sean Logan was just as excited about Bizarre's sales staff. Although Nectar had been doing a fair job of distributing themselves, passing those duties off to somone else was part of the game plan.
"It was meeting Keith's sales staff that just landed it. Watching them work the phones was educational to say the least. The relationships they have with their distributors are just incredible and I knew that they could really move our product," Logan told AVN.com
"In the last couple of weeks he's sold thousands and thousands of units just based on our first three releases," Logan added.
And it didn't hurt that Bizarre had just expanded their distribution network to include Europe.
In September, Bizarre set up shop in Europe: they now distribute in France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom and Spain, with plans on reaching out soon to Italy and Greece
"For years we sold our rights instead of putting our own stuff out there. Then a friend that I grew up with, who is from Belgium, he suggested distribution in Europe. He speaks several languages so it was a no-brainer," Gordon said.
Nectar will be sharing a booth at AEE in January with Bizarre.
From now on distributors can call 1-800-626-8031 to order Nectar titles.
