Nectar Entertainment has announced plans to release the directorial debut of AVN Award-nominated editor Eric Avalon.
Avalon is currently putting the finishing touches on his directorial debut, Exxxtasy Island. The title is the first of three Avalon-helmed movies shot during a trip to Brazil last year.
“It’s a nerve wracking experience at first, but once you start going, the excitement of being on location and shooting your own project takes over and it clicks in,” Avalon said, referring to directing his own title for the first time. “It also helped that Marty {Zion} was right there. He gave me free reign, but it was comforting knowing that he was there if needed.”
In fact, Exxxtasy Island will be released as part of Nectar’s Marty Zion line, with Zion’s name above the title.
“Its effectively Marty’s endorsement of the project. His name wouldn’t be on the box if he didn’t think it was worthy. Fans have come to associate the name Marty Zion with a certain level of quality.” Nectar CEO Sean Logan explained. “That same quality shows in Avalon’s work. And it should – Eric is no small part of Zion’s look.”
Zion concurs, noting that while Avalon has only one AVN nomination under his name, Avalon was responsible for a large portion of the 10 nominations Nectar received for the 2005 AVN Awards.
“He’s a utility player that is involved in every level of production. He oversees all of our post, but he has a hand in art direction, lighting….he’s involved on every project from conception to finish. He’s not a part of my look, Eric Avalon makes the Marty Zion look.”
Avalon, a 2005 AVN Award nominee in the Best Editing – Video category for his work on Marty Zion’s Metropolis, has been with Nectar since “Day One.”
“Our first meeting was by candlelight. We didn’t have any electricity in the building but we were excited about getting Nectar going, so we used candles,” Avalon said.
Avalon had worked with Marty Zion on a diverse range of mainstream projects before Nectar, and the film school graduate has directed a number of commercials and music videos.
“We have a lot of confidence in Eric. We’re more than pleased with his first three titles,“ Logan said. “In fact, we’re sending him back to Brazil in May to shoot more.”
Exxxtasy Island will be released at the end of March.
