Marty Zion’s Shades of Red, Nectar Entertainment’s first-ever release, has sold 20,000 copies as of last week, a sales milestone achieved through the growth of Nectar’s distribution network and through consistent reorders during the nearly three years since the movie’s release.
Nectar CEO Sean Logan credits the quality of the movie itself as well as exceptional support from domestic retail heavyweights such as Adam & Eve and Hustler, as well as the efforts of international partners such European distributors PABO and Forum. “We’ve been very lucky to work with a director as talented as Marty Zion, and we’re just as lucky to have relationships with retailers who continually reorder our high-end eroticore movies in order to provide their customers with adult entertainment of the highest caliber,” Logan said.
Originally released in October of 2003, Shades of Red featured elaborate sets featuring red color schemes designed to set the tone of each scene. Zion went on to produce a number of critically-acclaimed titles including the Mystified trilogy, Metropolis, and Illumination.
Zion wasn’t the only person of note to make their debut in Shades of Red – Cytherea, who would go on to win AVN’s Best New Starlet award in 2005, turned in her first scene ever for the movie – and yes, she did squirt.
2005 AVN Female Performer of the Year Lauren Phoenix, Paulina, Isabella, Phoenix Ray, Natalia Woods, and Mia Smiles round out the rest of the women featured in Shades of Red.
The packaging for Shades of Red was changed in 2006 when Nectar updated packaging on all of their prior releases to a new box cover style.
Zion lately has been working closely with his protégé Eric Avalon on Nectar’s signature Brazilian movies including the Exxxtasy Island series. In addition, Zion is undertaking various mainstream projects, and is expected to produce a sequel to Shades of Red that will be released in early 2007.
