MovieQuickie.com Debuts

Hoping to steal a bit of the spotlight on the video-on-demand market, Cayman Digital Inc. has announced the launch of its VOD platform, MovieQuickie.

Modeled after Apple’s iTunes, MovieQuickie differs from other VOD sites by offering a pay-per-scene scheme instead of the usual pay-per-minute model.

"There is a lot of competition in the pay-per-minute market, and our competitors are all fighting for the lowest ‘per-minute’ pricing package," commented MovieQuickie founder Kory Kupiszewski. "We’re doing things a lot differently."

Users sign up for a MovieQuickie account and purchase individual scenes that can be downloaded onto their computers and "rented" for either seven days (at $1.99) or for an unlimited rental period ($3.99).

"Every scene has Digital Rights Management (DRM) attached to them, which protects the studio from piracy," Kupiszewski said. "Our company is all about developing a strong relationship with the studios. We’ve received a lot of feedback about how the pay-per-minute model is not very accurate for tracking revenue that is paid out to the studio. The studios just hope every month for the decent paycheck with no way to actually track their sales.

"We want the studios to have complete confidence in us," Kupiszewski added. "Our website has a built-in studio reporting system that will track every scene that is downloaded to the computer. We can even track exactly how many times the customer watches a specific scene that they’ve downloaded. VOD revenue is no longer ‘found money’ for a studio, and they need to manage that aspect of their business in order to maximize their profits. With the slump in DVD sales and the rise of the VOD revenue, studios need a partner they can trust."

MovieQuickie’s custom Web development is handled by Red Apple Media and includes a download manager, which enables users to watch titles in real time as they download.
