Mood Beverage Offers ‘Sex’ in a Bottle

If Mood Beverage Corporation has its way, by the end of the year, rural Nevada will no longer be the only place consumers can legally purchase sex.

Of course, Mood Beverage isn't talking about intercourse — they're talking about Sex, the herbal beverage company's debut product.

"Sex makes you feel good. It's also a fun drink — I don't discount the novelty of a drink called sex," Mood Beverage president Brion Ware told AVN.com. "There's conversation around it because of that. It has the elements of a good, fun club drink."

Mood Beverage will be conducting a soft launch of Sex over the next few months, beginning with regional marketing in Northern California. The pomegranate-based herbal soft drink will roll out across the country over the next year, with the help of nightclub "Sex parties" tied to radio and TV promotions, and a model search.

Ware, one of the beverage's creators, insists Sex Sensual Elixir (the beverage's proper appellation) is more than just a gimmicky name.

"It doesn't do you any good to put out a soda with just a name," he said. "The first thing we did was put together the herbal mixtures and try them out around the office, and everyone got buzzed. The herbal mixture for Sex gives you energy, but it's an oxygenated euphoria. Pomegranates are known not only as aphrodisiacs but also as anti-oxidants, meaning it helps your body detoxify itself."

Mood Beverage was conceived a little over a year ago, while Ware was consulting for an herbal supplement company run by Neil Dhawan, now a Mood vice president.

"I was getting ready to formulate a sexual potency supplement while I was drinking a well-known energy drink, which I rarely do," Ware said. "Then it came to me: What if the sexual supplement was a cool-tasting soda and had a real effect?"

beverage Sex, soon to be in

nightclubs everywhere.

Dhawan, who has a background in pharmacy, was intrigued by the idea and teamed up with Ware to develop the beverage they now hope to push as a lifestyle.

Idea in hand, they consulted master herbalists, research scientists, a flavor specialist and laboratories. They also experimented, putting together a combination of herbal supplements to create their drink.

Pomegranate and a special type of ginger are the only two ingredients of Sex that Mood is willing to reveal, but Dwahan insists that their drink is a far cry from the standard nightclub energy booster on today's market.

"We're using a very top-of-the-line ginseng. Most ginsengs will take you up and down; this one will level off and keep you going throughout the night," Dwahan said. "You need top-of-the-line supplements to make a top-of-the-line drink. Then you need to mix them right. That's how we developed an herbal drink without the herbal taste."

Sex is non-alcoholic, but since nightclubs were a target market from the start, "mixability" was a consideration during the beverage's development. Dwahan recommends spiking Sex with vodka or sloe gin, but advises against mixing Sex with scotch.

Mood Beverage isn't a one-note beverage company, say its owners. Sex is just the first of five different sodas, each with its own mood, that will be released over the next year.
