Microsoft Sues Porn Spammers

They're not saying just who they've targeted, but Microsoft has sued a group of porn spammers it accuses of sending unsolicited porn emails to millions of MSN Hotmail and Internet Access customers.

The litigation accuses the unnamed spammers of placing "a tremendous burden on Microsoft" by flooding MSN and Access users with spam aimed at luring them to porn sites. The Redmond, Washington software empire wants a federal judge to ban the spammers from setting up future Hotmail or Access-tied e-mail accounts and stop violating company policy and state and federal laws by such spam.

Microsoft said in its November 12 filing that many of the spam messages in question were sent from Hotmail accounts despite Hotmail policy barring porn spam.

The company said it filed in Los Angeles because it believes the spammers in question do regular business in the San Fernando Valley just north of the city, an area known for hosting a large number of Adult entertainment companies.
