Actress Gretchen Mol isn’t the only one portraying the pioneer porn queen, Bettie Page this month.
Darla Crane does her own version of the dark-haired 50s beauty in Metro Interactive’s The Reincarnation of Betty Paige Collector’s Edition, set for release on April 18.
“We know Gretchen Mol is playing her in the theatrical release, but we feel we’re doing one better with Darla Crane,” said Metro Vice President Christian Mann, of the HBO Films theatrical release The Notorious Bettie Page, starring Mol.
Although Metro’s spelling of the porn icon’s name is intentionally slightly different from its true spelling, Mann said that’s because the movie is about an obsessed Bettie Paige fan who is determined to follow in her idol’s footsteps by calling herself Betty Paige.
“It’s a modern day story with Darla trying to be Bettie Page,” he said.
“We have Darla in a hot lesbian scene on a zebra skin rug with a hot blonde and then a three-way with where she’s getting it every which way with Guy DiSilva and two lucky studs.”
Meant to coincide with the April 14 release of the HBO movie, the title takes the Bettie Page story into a strange world with lots of hardcore sex and some hot beauties who manage to get in on the action.
Also starring are Tanya Danielle, Amber Michaels, Ryan Conner, Tony Michaels, Dino Bravo and Frank Fortuna.
“Bettie Page is a classic so we wanted to roll this out now when there’s all this buzz about her,” Mann said.
“Her popularity transcends the adult entertainment industry, like Playboy and the Hustler logo.”
Although the title was previously released, Mann said this latest edition features extras not available on the original title such as a photo gallery and a 14-by-28-inch pin-up poster of Crane as Bettie Page.
The original Bettie Page was born in Nashville, Tenn. and went on to pose for famed photographer Irwin Klaw and for Playboy magazine. She is known for her photos showing bondage and sadomasochism as well as mainstream work for swimwear and apparel.
