In a surprising move, Metro Studios fired two of its top executives, Joey Wilson, who ran the company, and Charlie Lynch, its creative director. Wilson was sacked today, Lynch yesterday.
A source at Metro who requested anonymity confirmed their dismissals to AVN.com. He said he saw “no real reason” for the firings and felt it was just “Metro being Metro.”
Metro’s action took industry observers aback, coming as it does at a peak period for the company. Its new FusXion gonzo and wall-to-wall imprint, for which Wilson and Lynch can claim much of the credit, has been outselling similar lines across the board.
“The company has never been doing so well or done such numbers,” the source at Metro said. “We’ve been selling more product than ever. Then all of a sudden this came right out of the blue. There were creative differences with Joey. With Charlie, I don’t know. I guess they wanted to move in a different art direction.”
Wilson, contacted by AVN.com less than two hours after he’d got his pink slip, said he would make a statement tomorrow.
