One of the prestige gay lines of the late 1990s, Men of Odyssey, is set to resume production after five years of dormancy. Popular industry veteran Bob East returns as executive producer, a position he served in shepherding hits such as Echoes, Ryker's Revenge, Idol in the Sky, and Carnal Intentions during the company's glory days.
"This is an exciting challenge and an idea whose time has come. To revitalize a line that was so well-received in its day should be interesting," said East. "We were known for big names both in front of and behind the camera. Jim Steel, Chi Chi LaRue, Jerry Douglas, and Wash West all directed for Odyssey.
"Stars like Ken Ryker, Ryan Idol, Zak Spears, and Tony Donovan made movies for us. This time around we plan to offer the same top quality productions in genres not overly exposed these days."
At its peak Odyssey brought Joe Gage out of retirement to direct, gave Chad Donovan his first director's gig, got Zak Spears back in front of the camera after a long hiatus, and showed the true potential of back-to-back best actor winner, Tony Donovan.
"I've noticed in the last few years the industry has gotten more serious, even the new companies. I know it is more difficult now and far more competitive, but hopefully we can put some fun back into it with marketing and release parties — remember release parties? Just expect the unexpected," said East.
East added that Men of Odyessy is interested in hearing from all potential directors, especially those from the gay film festival circuit. "We found Lucas Kazan after seeing Green Plaid Shirt and look at the work he produces now. When Wash West first made the rounds looking to direct, who could have thought he would go on to such acclaim for his successful independent films. We want to take chances and maybe we can come up with the next great concept in gay porn!"
