Media Blitz Continues for Carey

The mainstream media opportunities continue to pour in for Kick Ass Pictures contract star Mary Carey, whose attendance at last Tuesday’s Republican fundraiser hosted by President Bush peaked the interest of numerous press outlets.

Carey will appear on MSNBC’s “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” at 8 p.m. Tuesday, when she will be a guest for the third time in the span of a week. She also was a guest of Olbermann’s on June 14, the night of the dinner, and June 15. Since Olbermann's show couldn't get credentialed for the event, it actually made a mock puppet show of it with Carey and Kulkis as characters.

Then on Thursday night, Carey will be a guest on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart.

Carey attended the fundraising event in Washington with Kick Ass president Mark Kulkis, who was invited by the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC). Kulkis serves as an Honorary Chairman on the NRCC’s Business Advisory Council, a group of business people who advocate a progressive, pro-business agenda.

Since that night, every major TV network has covered the story. Even the Democratic National Committee sent out a press release about the Republicans accepting money from the adult industry. Kulkis paid to attend.

“Some people in the media have said that ‘You’re getting more press on this than President Bush,’” Kulkis said. “It’s been a huge success. We had a press conference at Coyote Ugly in Washington D.C., at 3 in the afternoon {on June 14}. The dinner was at 7. The hook was, ‘Come see what Mary will be wearing with the President.’”

It worked, as the press conference was packed with media who heard Carey officially announce plans to run for lieutenant governor of California as an Independent next year. The Associated Press, which wrote two different stories about Carey, even snuck a photographer into the fundraiser specifically to capture Carey, Kulkis noted.

The day before the dinner Carey was introduced to her “handler” from the NRCC at the opening cocktail reception.

“He told us his job was to make sure that if a congressman or senator was about to pose for a picture with her that they were aware of who they were posing with,” Kulkis joked. “He said he was authorized to tackle to Mary if she tried flashing her boobs or streaking. And he had a backup {at the fundraiser.}”

Kulkis said he was pleasantly surprised by how they were treated. “Everyone there welcomed us with open arms,” he said. “All the people at the dinner were all business people rather than the evangelical wing of the party. We didn’t have a single person come up to say anything bad at all.”

While in Washington, Carey also was a guest of Alan Colmes and G. Gordon Liddy and went on “A Current Affair.”

“It was a fantastic trip. The media attention was great and we also made a bunch of friends in the Republican party,” Kulkis said, adding that her run for governor of California in 2003 garnered her the notoriety for this to make such a splash. “It was kind of building one on the other. … This was kind of taking a step forward to being taken seriously. Mary had people there wanting to back her bid for lieutenant governor.”
