Gubernatorial sensation Mary Carey voted no for the recall but yes for herself today in the California recall election that thrust her into a prominent position in the nation's eye since her candidacy was announced in August.
Her voting station was in the most unlikely of places – a church. “At first I was scared that lightning would strike me, because it had been so long since I had been inside a church – and considering my profession….” Carey told AVN.com.
Of course being a porn star does have some perks, besides the obvious ones of a sexual nature. “I didn’t have my photo ID on me and normally they won’t let you vote, but they let me in anyway because I had a lot of media with me. And they recognized me. A lot of the people at the voting station were really happy to meet me,” Carey said.
In other measures on the ballot, Carey voted “Yes” for Prop 53, which sets aside three percent of the state budget for infrastructure growth, and “No” on Prop 54, the measure that sought to prevent government agencies from colleting data regarding race.
While Carey doesn’t express much hope of actually winning the election, her campaign manager Mark Kulkis keeps the dream alive.
"In the unlikely event that it looks like Mary will not be the next governor of California, Mary will give her concession speech live at 8:45 p.m.," Mark Kulkis, Carey's campaign manager, told AVN.com.
Carey will be appearing live on the Game Show Network tonight as it announces the winner of its Who Wants to be Governor of California? The Debating Game contest, where she is up for over $20,000 in prize money, depending on the online voting that is currently taking place on the Gameshow Network.
The network will make its announcement live at 8 p.m. PST from its offices in Culver City, where Carey also has set up her campaign headquarters for the evening.
There’s still more from Carey coming on the way. Her commercial was a hit last night, so much so that Leno intends to show it tonight during his show, not in a commercial segment. The 30-second spot that show Carey in provocative poses pitching her platform and defending the adult industry has received free airplay by a number of news stations since yesterday.
But Carey is looking foward to the election ending. "I think I’m going to take a month for dancing. I’m kind of tired of everything. I just want to go back to being a normal porn star," Carey said.
