The five-foot nine, 36DD, blonde porn publicity steam engine that is known to the world at large as Mary Carey keeps on rolling. Her fifteen minutes of fame, while certainly born from her gubernatorial race, seem to have lived beyond it.
Not only did the press visit the set of a porn spoof of her gubernatorial race, her role in Can You Be a Porn Star? has shifted some of the focus in media coverage of the project from being the first adult interactive pay-per-view experience and the first reality porn series to go after such a large potential audience, to being something that Carey is involved in.
“I think the press was looking for something to do another story about me, and this show gives them that opportunity. It’s great for both of us. We both benefit from this,” Carey told AVN.com
The Los Angeles coverage has been particularly Carey-centric. While Carey is the show’s nighttime host, her presence was requested on the set for yesterday’s visit by KTLA-5 during the day. Carey notes that she’s often used as a teaser throughout a news shows, with clips from her gubernatorial campaign playing throughout a broadcast, then at the end of the show, the news program runs their story about Can You Be a Porn Star?
“I was kinda missing the attention. It’s good to be going back on news shows again,” Carey said.
Tomorrow Carey will appear alongside Harry Feingold, producer of Can You Be a Porn Star?, on the MSNBC talk show Buchanan & Press, hosted by right wing pundit Pat Buchanan and left wing pundit Bill Press.
Not that all of the attention is going to Carey. Ginger Lynn, one of the judges for the show, and Tabitha Stevens, who co-hosts the show, are also appearing in the news. Stevens will be appearing on a nationally aired Fox News segment called The Big Picture.
Stevens will also be appearing with Carey on the Howard Stern show on December 3rd.
In just their first week of promotion, the reality porn series has garnered press from CNN, CBS, Access Hollywood, Live with Regis and Kelly, and was the butt of one of the jokes of the opening monologue of Late Night with Craig Kilborne.
Although, sometimes the press confuses which Carey story they are writing about. Yesterday on CNN.com, the front page had a photo of Carey standing alongside Ron Jeremy, disguised as his character from her porn spoof of the election Run, Mary, Run. Jeremy plays Spooge Cruztamante, based on Cruz Bustamante, the lieutenant governor.
The problem is that the corresponding story was about Can You Be a Porn Star?.
Run, Mary, Run also grabbed some headlines, with the Associated Press visiting her set, and KTLA-5 dropped by to interview her for that as well. “That was the station I read the weather for one day, so I knew all of them and it was good to see them,” Carey said.
Run, Mary, Run, due out next year, casts Lee Stone as Ernie Gropenegger, and Ron Jeremy as Spooge Cruztamante, a character based on lieutenant governor Cruz Bustamante.
