Just as the Democrats have their donkey and the Republicans have their elephant, the Personal Choice Party (PCP) has their happy face. More importantly, they have Marilyn Chambers Taylor running for Vice President of the United States on their ticket.
The PCP formed last year, and is currently only on the ballot in Utah.“This is just a really small party. It’s been around for a short while,” Taylor told AVN.com.“We’re speaking for the minority that doesn’t get spoken for. We’re for personal choice and personal freedoms.”
Taylor, a Californian who is probably best known as the star of Behind the Green the Door, the classic adult film that along with Deep Throat is often credited for the mainstreaming of porn, was offered a spot on the ticket last month by Charles Jay, the PCP presidential nominee.
Key planks in the PCP platform include ensuring the federal government doesn’t regulate boxing, calling for legalized gambling everywhere, eradicating federal taxes, and as their name indicates - preventing the government from interfering with a person's right choose.
Charles Jay selected the AVN Hall of Famer, described as a longtime friend, to be his running mate last month, after winning the PCP nomination by a landslide in May. “I met him in Florida at an autograph and memorabilia collector show,” Taylor said. “He was in radio at the time, he had a radio show and for a long time whenever I went to Florida I would go on his show.”
Over the course of approximately nine years the two became friends, and realized they had similar political beliefs. “I have very strong beliefs, the same as his. I just really can’t spend a lot of time with it and I don’t want to get thrown to the dogs,” she said. “But who better than myself since I do believe in freedom of choice. I’m one the people who would know about that better than anyone else.”
Taylor isn’t referring just to her porn career – she says her experiences as the owner of a gun store taught her that regulatory movements within the federal government were out of control. “I think they are running rampant around this country saying what you can and can not do, and I think there are a number of things, including guns and pornography, that should be left entirely up to personal choice.”
While Jay has acknowledged that Taylor was selected to "help close the publicity gap" facing independent parties, he has also said that she – as representative of the adult entertainment industry and its fans – is valuable as a symbol of the First Amendment battles that are still raging across the country today.
Bringing Taylor to the ticket fulfilled one of Jay’s pledges during his campaign to win the nomination – he promised to bring an “impact” running mate to the ticket.
“I’m not going to campaign or anything. I told him I couldn’t go out and do debates,” Taylor told AVN.com.
Besides being an aspiring politician, Jay’s official biography states that he has been involved in boxing for 17 years as a writer, publicist, matchmaker, manager, and promoter. He has also hosted sports talk radio shows and currently operates a public relations and marketing firm that specializes in sporting events.
Even in the unlikely event the personal choice activists win in Utah, the state is only worth five electoral votes, from the 270 required to win the presidency.
The Personal Choice Party’s official Website simply lists Taylor’s name on their site next what she is running for, with no other reference to her to found on the site. No doubt, the PCP moderator and Utah gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Ken Larsen, is responsible for the omission of Taylor’s past – he’s a self-described devout Mormon.
Marilyn Chambers Taylor is currently not booked for any political debates, but is planning on attending Glamourcon 34 in Chicago in August.
