Man Dies After Setting Strip Club on Fire

A man who was found dead last month at a fire-ravaged strip club, was trying to keep a woman from becoming a stripper when he set the building on fire, authorities said.

According to the Chicago Tribune, autopsy results of 25-year-old William D. Hubble of Kenney, showed that he died of smoke inhalation in a May 12 fire that destroyed the Wildside Cabaret.

Dewitt County Sheriff Roger Massey said last week that the man was found in a storage area at the club, near a gasoline can. The victim apparently poured the gasoline on some couches before setting it them fire.

Sheriff’s Detective Rick Hawn said the man’s blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit.

Hawn said witnesses told investigators that Hubble met a woman who was stripping for the first time at the club and that he had spoken to her for three hours, trying to dissuade her from pursuing the life of a stripper.

The woman apparently told him that she owed money and that she needed to strip to pay her debts.

Authorities said Hubble was known for helping people and that he had no criminal record.
