In a unanimous decision the Los Angeles City Council voted this morning to pass an ordinance that will ban laps dances in the City of Angels. The ordinance requires a six-foot separation between dancers and customers at all times, with penalties of up to six months in jail and fines as much as $2,500 for both the dancer and their client.
Adult entertainment establishments will be required to keep state-liscensed security guards on their premises at all times. The ordinance will also require adult bookstores to hire security guards.
The Police Commission will have broad rule making authority under the ordinance. One rule that the Commission intends on issuing is a requirement that a notice of the six-foot rule be prominently displayed at each establshiment.
Under the ordinance all adult establishments will be required to renew their permit every year. The Police Commission will oversee the licensing requirements.
An estimated 30 strip clubs in Los Angeles will be affected by the new ordinance.
