Industry veteran David Lord has become the newest director for the hardcore gonzo company American Hardcore.
Lord’s experience includes working for established companies such as Wicked Pictures, Private and Evil Angel, where he currently runs the company’s bustling DVD division.
Known throughout the industry as David Crawford, the 35-year-old Lord has been working in adult since he was 18 starting out with Western Visuals. Lord produced the 2005 AVN Award-winning Best Vignette Release, Buttman Comics Presents…Tales from the Crack, and co-directed the soon-to-be released Vault of Whores with Tricia Devereaux for Evil Angel.
Since he is becoming more active as a director, he said that he wanted to create a distinct name different from the one for which he is already known.
“I’ve worked under David Crawford my whole career, but I wanted to be able to separate myself,” Lord said. “I wanted to give myself a porn alias, a porn character. Since I’m going into the directing field, I just wanted to have a persona.”
His directorial debut for American Hardcore will be a Latin title called Sack the Wet Back.
“David’s sick and twisted vision coupled with his comic book sensibility makes him one of the most unique and talented directors in the business,” said American Hardcore co-owner T.J. DiReda. “When we sat down to discuss his ideas we spent the whole day literally in tears, laughing and excited about what he plans to deliver.”
Lord said he was excited about the opportunity, and grateful to Evil Angel honcho John Stagliano for allowing him to take on other projects.
“[Co-owners] Vic [Thomas] and TJ are friends of mine. We’re on the same page when it comes to porn. I like to have fun with it,” Lord told AVN.com. “With Sack the Wet Back, I want to have it look good and have it be campy and fun, so that a couple or a group of guys could sit around and watch this thing. I want to make fun, comic-book-style, colorful porn and then have the filthy sex. I’ll leave all the drama to the guys over at Wicked.”
He said the Sack the Wet Back series would have recurring characters.
“We’re going after all the stereotypes,” Lord revealed. “We’re going to be as funny and outrageous as we can, and we want to capture that hard sex. I want to focus on making the sex top notch and making the setups fun and quick. But it’s going to be twisted, and it’s going to grab people’s attention.”
Lord plans to begin shooting Sack the Wet Back in early October with a release date tentatively scheduled for November. He described his style as more like Gregory Dark than a Brad Armstrong or Nic Andrews.
“One of the things I loved about Greg Dark is that he always had unusual stories and unusual setups. It was not the stuff that everyone did,” Lord said. “Everyone’s done the pizza man. Everyone’s done the big drama, or the vampire movie. If I’m going to give you pizza man, I’m going to give you pizza man like you’ve never seen before.”
He continued, “The cool thing about [American Hardcore] is they really want me to do stuff I enjoy. Lately, two things I enjoy are Latin women and MILFs, so I’ll probably do something with MILFs after that. Then I think we might go with something black. I’ve really been appreciating black women and Latin women. They asked me, ‘What gets you off? What are your kinks? Let's run with those.’”
