The final evening of the Live Sex Awards brought about some surprises. Following an expansive dinner buffet, the evening’s entertainment was a female-led band that can be described as a Portishead/Mazzy Star hybrid. After the band, a dozen dancers covered in latex contorted limberly in every direction, by their movements alone telling the classic story of love and determination triumphing over adversity.
The awards ceremony rounded out the evening’s events. Videos from each of the solo-girl nominees were presented on a large screen. Eventually, Buffy was crowned winner and presented with the $100,000 prize. With tears in her eyes, she accepted a bouquet of flowers and a large foam-board check before embarking on a pageant-like victory parade.
Webmasters were honored next: Approximately 20 webmasters culled from a lengthy list of nominees won $500. Eight of those were chosen at random by newly crowned solo-girl queen Buffy to win $5,000 each.
The eight finalists each were asked to select on envelope, in one of which was the $100,000 grand prize.
The first LSAs was a very unique experience. What I've learned is this: everything is subject to change at a moment’s notice, including show schedules, workshops, contest rules, and even taxi fares.
I appreciated the hospitality.
