LOS ANGELES—Little Puck is part of the ensemble cast of "Frankenbabes From Beyond the Grave!," a new short from writer/director Andrew Bowser (Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls), scheduled for its Los Angeles debut at Screamfest this October.
The production has already been shot and edited; a successful Kickstarter campaign helped complete post-production work including sound, color, music and VFX.
“'Frankenbabes' reimagines the Frankenstein mythos with a radical twist: Science and religious ideology reanimate a group of deceased performers to create the perfect subservient woman—only to unleash rebellion against the patriarchy,” promotional materials describe.
Alongside Puck, the "Frankenbabes" ensemble features cosplayers and sex workers including Penny Barber, Savannah Solo, Bunni Black, Cheyenne Jaz-Wise, Melissa Drew, Hex Hypoxia and Stephanie Michelle.
“Being part of 'Frankenbabes' was like stepping into a world that’s campy, sexy, and deeply subversive all at once,” said Puck. “This project isn’t afraid to push boundaries and deliver a message while still being wildly entertaining. Working alongside other performers under Andrew’s vision was a dream, and I can’t wait for fans and industry members to join us for the Screamfest premiere in Los Angeles.”
The movie continues Bowser’s exploration of retro '80s aesthetics, with much of the creative team from Onyx the Fortuitous contributing, including cinematographer Dan Adlerstein, costume designer Lauren St. Laurent, FX makeup artist Eric Zapata, and the sound and music team of Mike Gallagher, Matt Mahaffey and Leticia Wolf.
A representative said that since its completion, "Frankenbabes" has drawn “packed houses and rave reactions” on the festival circuit, with stops at Panic Fest (Kansas City), Calgary Underground, Sacramento Midnight, Seattle Crypticon, Portland Horror, DEADCENTER (Oklahoma City), Chattanooga Film Festival, Popcorn Frights (Audience Award, Best Short Film), Sidewalk Film Festival (Alabama), Colorado Festival of Horror (Audience Choice Winner) and Fantastic Fest (Austin).
Upcoming screenings include Screamfest in Los Angeles on October 11 at 2 p.m. and FilmQuest in Provo, Utah on October 30. Several "Frankenbabes" cast members will be on hand at Screamfest for the Los Angeles premiere.
