Lauren Phoenix Makes Directorial Debut for Doghouse Digital

Lauren Phoenix, already established as one of the top new female performers in adult with her win earlier this year as XRCO’s Best New Female Performer and a 2005 AVN Award nomination for Best Female Performer of the Year, is now working on diversifying her career by stepping behind the camera.

Phoenix, originally from Canada despite her love of the Philadelphia Eagles, has already canned her directorial debut, tentatively titled Shut Up & Fuck Me!, for Montreal-based Doghouse Digital.

“Lauren has got it all, not only is she one of the top performer’s in the industry today,” Doghouse Digital’s general manager, Jon B, told AVN.com, “but she’s also got a head on her shoulders and knows exactly what she wants to do. Her ideas are great and we’re ready to run with them.”

Shut Up & Fuck Me! turns the tables on traditional porn scenarios, and places women in the role of the aggressor for each scene.

“It’s an anal series, of course. Its only right that a woman who has portrayed Buttwoman should create an anal series for her first,” Phoenix told AVN.com, referring to her turn as Buttwoman for Elegant Angel’s Patrick Collins in this year’s Buttwoman: Bigger Better Wetter.

In fact, Collins is credited with teaching Phoenix much about what she knows about directing, though Phoenix, knowing that she wanted to direct from day one in the adult, has picked up tips here and there throughout her career, though she readily admits she still has a lot to learn. “For this one I had to bring in camera guys, but in the future I’d like to be able to hold the camera, because it will give me just that much more control over the final product,” Phoenix said.

Phoenix, now 24-years-old, began her career in adult early last year, turning in close to 200 scenes in that time, by her own estimation, and developing a reputation as one of the industry’s hardcore standouts along the way, something she thinks helps her as a director.

“I think my reputation precedes me as a performer – people know that I’m about giving it my all, and I think that when I’m on a set as a director, the talent feels like showing what they can really do because they respect that,” Phoenix said.

It doesn’t hurt that Phoenix tries to put performers together who will enjoy working with each other. “A great scene is one with passion, where you can really tell that people are having a good time, and the best way to get there is to have performers who want to work with each other.”

And of course, Phoenix performs in the debut volume of Shut Up & Fuck Me!. “What can I say, I can never get enough sex. Of course I’m performing in my own movie,” she said.

Shut Up & Fuck Me! is currently slated for release in spring, 2005.
