Dancers and other entertainers in Los Angeles clubs exotic and otherwise won't have to worry about keeping a six-foot distance from their patrons just yet. A controversial proposal to mandate that span between entertainer and customer was sent back to the Los Angeles City Council's Public Safety, Planning, and Land Use Management Committee June 18, to review questions of enforceability.
The move also gives adult and other nightclubs the opportunity to bring forth more evidence about why the six-foot separation rule would be a bad idea, according to attorneys present at the council meeting.
The council voted to send the proposal back to the Public Safety committee on an amendment by Councilwoman Jan Perry focusing on the land use applications sections of the bill. Councilman Nate Holden had told the meeting the proposal was all but unenforceable in his view, saying in effect that police would have to station officers in every club with a tape measure to see that the rule was enforced, if the proposal becomes law.
