Less than a month after Jonni Darkko was welcomed as part of the Evil Empire, Justin Slayer has become the newest producer-director at Evil Angel. Slayer has one month left under his contract with EXP Multimedia, during which time he'll wrap up projects he had already undertaken, then he'll begin his career in 2003.
"The way it is, is that everything is real friendly. I've still got some projects I've got to finish up with Exquisite and I'll always love 'em," Slayer said. "I love those dudes personally, but it's like when you first move out the house. It's like "Oh, I'm moving away from moms," - you don't want to, but you can't live in the house with moms forever. Alex Estrada and Tony B [EXP Multimedia's owner and general manager, respectively] were great to me and I appreciate the opportunities they gave me.
"But Evil Angel is - well, it's the goal. That's where you want to be if you're a gonzo director. That's the top thing you can do," Slayer said. "If you get the offer and you don't take it - you really are dumb."
Of course no one gets the offer unless Evil Angel owner John Stagliano approves of the director's work. Stagliano was impressed with the camerawork in Slayer's videos "especially by the natural raw elements of the sex scenes. When I saw Black Pipe Layers 1, I was amazed at how good the casting was, to get gorgeous girls who love to do incredibly strong sex. Justin really knows how to shoot great ass shots, and I think this is going to be a great addition to Evil Angel."
Slayer was brought to Stagliano's attention by Careena Collins, who met Slayer at the 2004 AVN AEE convention in Las Vegas. Collins currently works on the Evil Angel sales staff, but in the mid-90s she was well known for over-the-top performances in movies such as Kink with Rocco Siffredi.
Collins, familiar with the interracial market from a column she wrote for an interracial magazine - not to mention some real life experience, looked at several of Slayer's movies and recognized his talent. "I thought I had experienced and written about (if not filmed) the 'ultimate' when it comes to such action... that is, until I was recently introduced to Justin Slayer," Collins said. "What I have seen of Justin's work surpasses all the IR I've seen or done in my entire life. Since the first DVD I saw of his (Black Pipe Layers #1), all my instincts have been screaming that he is what the masses have been missing."
Luckily for Slayer, this was around the same time that Stagliano mentioned he was looking for more photo content for his hardcore magazine, Buttman. Collins immediately thought of Justin's movies and mentioned to John that he should take a peek at the pictures on the DVD covers. Stagliano not only looked at the cover pictures, but also at the videos themselves. He obviously liked what he saw.
Stagliano's wife, Tricia Devereaux, describes the first time Stagliano and Slayer met. "It was amazing seeing the two of them together. They both have a passion for sex and pornography, and it was like they were bringing it out in each other even more, talking first about how to take stills, then about how to capture good energy and good sex in videos," Devereaux said.
"Justin was saying things about how he likes to shoot a scene that John's been teaching me for years. And I can tell one reason how Justin gets the girls to want the sex so much - he's just gorgeous and charming and smart and sexual - all wrapped in one package," she added.
Slayer was given his break as a director at EXP Multimedia, where he released ten titles during the last year including Slayer Unleashed, Black Pipe Layers , and Freshly Slayed. Black Pipe Layers #1 was awarded an Editor's Choice by AVN.
"Justin is a great guy, and is a huge talent," said EXP Multimedia owner Alex Estrada. "We saw something fresh and unique in Slayer's work that no one else did, and were willing to take on the challenge of distributing his movies, despite the fact that he was not known as a director.
"We are sad to see him leave, but we know that there are a lot of opportunities out there that he needs to explore. Even if we are no longer working with Justin, we will still remain friends and wish him the best of luck in whatever he chooses to do."
