Juicy’s Marty Turkel to Return to Work

Juicy Entertainment General Manager Marty Turkel is returning to work Monday after a two-month hospital stay.

“I’m feeling almost 100 percent so I’m ready to get back to work,” said Turkel, who has recovered from surgery in June.

It was last April that Turkel became ill while on a business trip.

“I was turning yellow and feeling sick and I didn’t know why,” he recalled.

“I flew back home and went to see a doctor and found out I needed surgery.”

Doctors discovered that he had to have his gall bladder removed but in preparation for that procedure, doctors found that he had blockages on two major arteries along with an irregular heartbeat which required a pacemaker.

Turkel, an industry veteran of nearly 30 years, was fading fast even as doctors struggled to save him.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been as sick as that, so I’m very grateful to the doctors,” he said.

The fact that he had multiple complications, made a positive prognosis difficult at best.

“He was in the hospital for two months and we really didn’t know if he was going to make it,” said Ed Kail, Turkel’s longtime friend and national sales manager at DVSX.

With one procedure followed by another, just weeks apart, Turkel’s condition worsened over several weeks, but ultimately stabilized long enough for doctors to complete surgery to remove the blockages and to install a pacemaker.

“It was a really hard time for me but I was thankful for all the people that supported me,” Turkel said.

“I don’t think anyone should have to go through something like that.”

Today, Turkel is getting ready to get back on the proverbial horse and return to work at Juicy. With a slew of upcoming releases, Turkel said he’s ready for the challenge.
