A federal judge has denied a request for a temporary restraining order by one-time hip-hop video girl Karrine Steffans to bar Vivid Entertainment Group from releasing Superhead, which features her in hardcore sex scenes.
On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge George Schiavelli turned down Steffans’ request for the order that would have put a halt on Vivid’s distribution of the video which features Steffans having oral sex and intercourse with Mr. Marcus in 2000.
Neither, Steffans nor Vivid officials were available for comment.
Steffans had sought to stop the title’s distribution, claiming she should share in the profits of the video. The title was released on April 21.
She told the New York Daily News last month that she was entitled to compensation from Vivid.
“That was six years ago when I was a coke whore. I was a single mom. I needed money. Vivid makes it look like it’s a new tape. They’re using my current picture and a book title without my permission,” she said.
“If anyone profits from the film, I want my cut, which I will donate to charity.”
In her 2005 book, “Confessions of a Video Vixen,” Steffans tells about her life as stripper and then of being featured in a number of hip-hop music videos made by R. Kelly, LL Cool J. and others.
She also tells of her sexual exploits with countless musicians, athletes and other celebrities, many of whom paid for her services.
Meanwhile, Steffans’ suit against Vivid, which seeks money damages over the same issue, is still pending.
