John T., Bone Sets Up His Own Studio in Brazil

Veteran director John T. Bone has set up a studio of his own in Sao Paulo, Brazil, to produce movies distributed in the U. S. by New Sensations of Chatsworth.

Bone’s publicist, Jeff Mullen of All Media Play, told AVN.com that Bone’s deal with New Sensations, for one movie every cycle, or every five to six weeks, has enabled him to shoot exclusively in Brazil.

Photography, editing and post-production are done at The John T. Bone Company’s Sao Paulo facilities, and a finished product is delivered to New Sensations.

Bone’s first Brazilian movie was Puck, released last year. His latest is Wicca, starring his exclusive actress, Felicity Jones. She is one of six women and two men under contract to him. (The point of contracting performers in Brazil, Mullen said, is to prevent other companies from using them.)

Originally Bone looked at Brazil as “a great place to find untapped talent.” But after shooting Puck he gradually expanded his operations and is now there to stay. Though he still divides his time between Los Angeles and Sao Paulo, he is about to get a house in Brazil.

“He’s got quite an operation there,” Mullen said, “with editors and edit bays and all the best equipment. He just chooses not to shoot in America.”

Bone has been doing story-based features with voice-over narration, like the witchcraft-themed Wicca, but he is about to start shooting wall to wall sex movies.

Throughout the adult industry, negative feelings about Brazil have surfaced in the wake of last spring’s HIV outbreak. Some producers who have previously shot there say they’re not going back. But Bone, who shoots without condoms, is convinced it can be done safely.

Mullen says that all talent is HIV-tested, just as in Los Angeles. Sao Paulo clinics, he said, offer not just the standard Eliza test but also the more reliable DNA testing.

“I was there a few months back,” Mullen said, “and I was impressed with the medical facility utilized, as well as with the overall care that John puts into each product.”
