LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Times has invited Evil Angel owner John Stagliano to debate obscenity and the 1st Amendment in 'Dust Up,' an op-ed feature scheduled to appear next week in print and online at latimes.com/dustup.
Stagliano's opponent in the debate will be Barry McDonald, a law professor at Pepperdine University and commentator on 1st Amendment issues. The debate will run Monday - Thursday with one question from the Times editorial staff posted each day in a point/counterpoint format.
Stagliano will lead off the debate. Among the topics to be addressed are obscenity laws, the recent scandal involving Judge Alex Kozinski and the Ira Isaacs trial, the mainstreaming of porn and government regulation of the adult industry.
Each week, the Times editorial page hosts a dialogue between two prominent figures on a topic of public interest. These 'Dust Up' exchanges are featured prominently on the site's Opinion page at latimes.com/opinion.
