Items Sought for Night of the Stars Auction

Donations are being sought for an auction that will take place at the Free Speech Coalition’s annual awards gala, The Night of The Stars, scheduled to take place in July.

The Night of The Stars serves as a way of honoring those who have distinguished themselves in support of freedom of expression, but also serves as a fundraiser for the FSC, the trade association of the adult entertainment industry.

Besides table fees and sponsorships, the Night of The Stars also raises money each year with both a live and silent auction.

“By donating items through your community connections and business you will help us raise much needed funds to make this event a success,” writes auction chair Mara Epstein, in a letter sent to members of the FSC.

All donations for the auction will be acknowledged in the Souvenir Program Journal and donations that have a value greater than $1,000, will be verbally acknowledged during the live auction.

“When an auctioneer brings things in we get a percentage of what he sells. When we bring the items in, we get a 100 percent,” Epstein told AVN.com. “We’ll take just about anything, but would prefer items that aren’t adult industry specific.”

Suggestions for donations include gift certificates to your favorite restaurant, hotels, gym memberships, “anything that we can use to auction off.”

Although contributions or gifts to the Free Speech Coalition are not deductible as a charitable contribution, they may be deductible as an advertising business expense.

The Night of the Stars differs from other awards events in the adult industry by the breadth of backgrounds of those recognized. Not only are performers recognized for outstanding careers, businessmen are acknowledged for paving the way for those who followed and lawyers are honored for defending the very right of existence for the adult industry.

Rap pioneer Luke Campbell, who is currently working on a project with Exquisite Multimedia, will attend the event, where he will accept the first ever Celebrity Freedom Fighter Award.

The Night of the Stars will take place on Saturday July 24, 2004, at the Sheraton Universal in Universal City.
