Introducing Doctor Sharon Mitchell

As of 12:15p.m. yesterday, the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation’s executive director Sharon Mitchell should be referred to as Dr. Sharon Mitchell.

Mitchell was awarded her Ph.D. in Human Sexuality from the Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Sexuality, an accredited institution based in San Francisco.

Mitchell has been working on her thesis for months and is looking foward to a short vacation before launching a new enterprise.

“I'll be taking a vacation to South East Asia next months for a few weeks,” Mitchell told AVN.com. “Then I will be opening a private practice and a business of my own. I'm not ready to expound on what that is yet.”

Mitchell did say that even with her new practice, she will remain executive director of AIM, though she may pull back on some of her administrative duties.

Mitchell began her career in adult in 1974 as a performer, appearing in more than 600 adult projects in her career including classics such as Barbara Broadcast and Doogan’s Woman.

Mitchell earned her degree as a certified HIV and chemical dependency counselor in 1996. When an outbreak of HIV hit the adult industry two years later, she founded AIM with internist Steve York, MD.

Each month approximately 700 people – from the industry and the general public – come to AIM for state-of-the-art HIV and STD testing.
