Interactive Flip Books Return

Flippies, a New York-based manufacturer of custom flip books, has brought back and improved the old-time animated flip book in celebration of the invention's 123rd anniversary this month. Some of the earliest interactive adult entertainment products were flip books featuring seductive women dancing and stripping, or “Flip-Tease” books.

Flip books were first patented in the U.S. on May 16, 1882 by Henry Van Hovenbergh of Elizabeth, N.J. The first flip books consisted of simple drawings stacked in sequential stages of movement with a single staple binding. When the pages were flipped, they would create the optical illusion of motion.

"In this age of high tech interactive multimedia, the simplicity of flip books is not only refreshing, but its illusion is even more captivating than ever," said Jeffrey Kay, president of Flippies. "Creative marketers are, once again, beginning to use flip books as interactive brochures and unique giveaway items for promotions, trade shows, events and other marketing activities."

Flippies has recently re-engineered the original flip book concept and also created a patent pending process to easily create flip books from live-action or animated video footage.
