Notebook computers with the new Intel notebook chip, code-named Alviso, are not expected to turn up in stores until early in 2005, published reports indicated late July 18, though the delay is not expected to impact Intel’s bottom line.
Reuters cited a source in the company itself as saying that “unspecified technical and marketing issues” caused the delay, meaning Intel will miss the winter holiday shopping season and concurrent year-end bump in corporate tech spending.
This was the second problem of the year with Intel notebook chips, following a January announcement from Intel that it had to push back the next Pentium microprocessor, Pentium M, following discovery of a design flaw. Alviso was originally set for delivery in the second half of 2004.
