The Internet Safety Network (INSAFE) celebrates Safer Internet Day February 8, with activities planned to promote safe Web surfing for youth in European Union countries plus Australia, Canada, and the Russian Republic.
"Safer Internet projects have contributed to several remarkable achievements, including the October 2003 break-up of a worldwide child-porn ring thanks to a tip from the Internet hotline association INHOPE," said EuroFunding.com, in praising Safer Internet Day plans. "Filtering services have been compared and new self-regulation models for mobile content proposed.
"The importance of safer Internet awareness among parents has been underlined through several EU-funded surveys," the information site continued, "showing that European parents seriously underestimate their kids' daily exposure to harmful content and dangerous situations online."
Safer Internet Day also got a plaudit from Adult Sites Against Child Pornography executive director Joan Irvine, who went on to praise INHOPE's work as a major factor in a stronger assault against child porn in the past few years.
"I first attended one of their meetings in 2003 to inform them about what the Adult entertainment industry was doing in the battle against child pornography, to protect children and the ASACP hotline which has sent tips to the FBI since 1996," she told AVNOnline.com. "We shared the ASACP Best Practices with them and participated in the committee for the proposed mobile phone regulations. We are looking forward to seeing the final proposal."
Safer Internet Day activities will include, among other activities, a storytelling contest in which children in ISAFE member countries will write Internet adventure stories, with the winner to be published around the world.
