The long-awaited 1974 Peter Berlin gay-erotic classic, That Boy, has finally made it to DVD. Digitally remastered and filled with extras, That Boy Special Edition DVD is currently in pre-order and will ship the first week of May, according to producer Jim Tushinski.
"The DVD was produced with Peter's full approval," Tushinski told AVN.com Thursday, "and is the only version of the film authorized by Peter Berlin." In addition to starring in the movie, Berlin also wrote, directed, produced, and edited That Boy.
Tushinski is also the director and co-producer of the feature-length documentary That Man: Peter Berlin which had its world premier in Germany at the Berlin International Film Festival in February.
Currently being shown at film festivals around the world, That Man will have its U.S. premiere in Miami, Fla., at the end of April. "As the documentary plays more U.S. cities, especially New York, San Francisco, and L.A., I'm positioning the That Boy DVD to capitalize on this resurgence of interest in Peter and his work.
"Everywhere we show the doc, people are interested in seeing Peter's films," Tushinski said.
Tushinski and Berlin also plan to release a special DVD edition of Nights in Black Leather, Berlin's first starring role.
"We're still searching for a good quality 16mm print of that film," Tushinski said. "The one Peter has was chopped up to make 8mm reels for mail order in the 1980s and is missing about thirty minutes. We're also on a search for the one short film Peter made that appears to have completely vanished—it's called Waldeslust."
Extras on That Boy Special Edition include audio commentary by Peter Berlin and noted porn reviewer John F. Karr, two Berlin short features, Blueboys and Search, an extensive photo gallery, and never-before-seen footage from "Berlin's vault."
Pre-orders are being accepted at www.Peter-Berlin.com and www.GorillaFactoryProductions.com.
