Pirates, the mega-production from Digital Playground and Adam & Eve, is outselling the competition by at least two to one in every single avenue of distribution, according to a DP press release.
Frank Kay, owner and founder of IVD, one of the largest distributors of adult product in the United States, is quoted in the release as saying, “Pirates is exceptional at every level. Digital Playground spared no expense in the making or marketing of this film. The sales tools they provide us with are the best we’ve ever had for any title in the 20 years we’ve done business. The packaging is so good, it compares to the best Hollywood DVDs I’ve ever seen and the production values throughout are remarkable. With this kind of support from Digital Playground, it’s easy to see why Pirates, even at double the price, is outselling every other feature movie this year.”
Adam & Eve, one of the biggest catalog mail order enterprises in erotica, is blown away by the numbers Pirates is doing, the release says. Bob Christian, its V.P. of new business is quoted saying, “Adam & Eve and Adam & Eve Pictures are ecstatic with the results of this endeavor. Pirates is already the best selling title in the history of the Adam & Eve catalog ... and we feel sure this is only the beginning of an incredible alliance between Digital Playground and Adam & Eve. Amazing, too, is the response we’ve gotten from pairing two exclusive contract stars — Carmen Luvana and Jesse Jane — for this blockbuster affair.”
GVA, another leading distributor of adult entertainment, has this quote from its buyer, Don Endy, in the release: “Pirates is going gang busters! We have surpassed initial sales expectations and reorders are already rolling in. It’s going to a swashbuckling record setter for us.”
Pirates is doing record numbers on the web as well, the release states. Adult DVD Empire, one of the largest adult e-tailer in the nation, reportedly has seen phenomenal sales. Mike Barry, director of adult operations, states, “Pirates is truly a blockbuster release. Every aspect of the project – from production to packaging – is top notch. Pirates entered our current bestsellers list at number two, and shortly went to number one – where, if initial sales are an indication, it will remain for quite some time.”
Digital Playground president Samantha Lewis is excited by the early success of the movie. She says, “My partner Joone’s productions always sell outstanding numbers, but Pirates is beyond anything I’ve seen. The sales have been staggering, well exceeding our projections. Our street date was only a week ago, we’re already into our third run – and that’s domestic sales only!”
Following the premiere of “Pirates” at the Egyptian theater, contract stars Jesse Jane and Carmen Luvana hit the road for a two-month promotional tour. They kicked off the tour at Hustler Hollywood and Hustler Hollywood - San Diego, where they autographed full-size movie posters to hundreds of fans for hours, well beyond their scheduled signing time. Jimmy Flynt II, Hustler’s vice president of marketing says in the release, “The overwhelming success of the Pirates events at Hustler Hollywood San Diego and Los Angeles are proof that our customers want high quality productions. Pirates is the future of adult entertainment.”
Today, over a week since the signing, Hustler Hollywood store manager, Chris Thornberry said, “Sales figures for the Pirates DVD have been steady all week. We receive numerous phone calls per day asking us if we have the title in stock. Yesterday, a customer called and had us hold four copies for him (he later came in and purchased them). I see Pirates continuing to be a hot seller for the rest of the year and years to come.”
Following the local signings, Jesse and Carmen hit Fascinations in Tempe, Arizona. After appearances on three local radio stations, the store was packed and David Gilbert, director of marketing was thrilled. He said, “We were extremely pleased with the turnout for our Pirates DVD release signing. Overall the event was fantastic and the turnout was beyond expectations. The store’s sales exceeded our goals and we sold more Pirates DVDs in one night than any other signing we have had. Jesse Jane and Carmen Luvana lit up the store and engaged the crowds to keep things rolling all night. We had a huge line all night and even had to extend the signing hours to accommodate the crowds of fans that wanted their DVD signed by these stars. This was simply a great event! And we would like to thank everyone who participated.”
Their Colorado appearance was equally grand. Tim Shanks, director of operations raved, “It was amazing how much traffic this signing event generated. According to our store manager, who has been with us for eight years, it was by far the biggest turnout ever. We sold more videos times 10 than any other in a single day. Jesse and Carmen were the most fun and the most personable stars I’ve ever had the privilege of working with. They really have a star quality about them and are very charismatic. The employees and guests all had the same thing to say.”

DVD Talk lists Pirates in its number one spot, according to the release, and Ian Jane writes, “Impressive production values, splendid costumes, and surprisingly good performances from a handful of the x-rated entertainment industry’s biggest stars makes Pirates one of the most accessible adult features I’ve ever seen.”
The folks at Adult DVD Reviews also show Pirates in the number one spot, says the release; Dr. Jay gave it their “critics choice” award and called it “the most ambitious adult movie ever. A must see.”
Sitting in the number one position on Adult DVD Empire, claims the release, Pirates got an amazing review from Spooky. He wrote, “Pirates is one of those rare adult releases that actually lives up to the hype. It shows how good an adult release can be with a little time, patience and investment.
