Deep Throat to Premiere Again in Hollywood

The Laemmle Sunset 5 Theaters, at the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Crescent Heights, will be the party place at 9 p.m. Thursday.

That's when limousines carrying porn stars like Jesse Jane and Teagan Presley will be arriving for the 2005 premiere, one hour later, of the re-mastered XXX original Deep Throat, the movie that, some say, started the adult industry as we know it today.

Also on hand for the event will be former Arrow Productions contract player Joelean, as well as new talent Brandi May and Leanne Young, as well as several other ladies not yet confirmed.

Attendees will be able to see the original, uncut version of the film, along with a mini-documentary created by industry super-tech Paul Interlandi, Days of Deep Throat, which is also available on Arrow's Special Edition DVD of the film. They can also check out the excellent new documentary about the film, the NC-17-rated Inside Deep Throat, which will be playing several times during the day and evening – most notably at 7:15 p.m. – on another screen at the same complex. That showing would let viewers out just in time to meet the stars before catching Deep Throat at 10.

Interlandi has chronicled his troubles of getting prints made of the XXX classic (see previous AVN.com stories), but both he and Arrow owner Raymond Pistol are hoping that this theatrical showing of the 33-year-old film will spark other theater owners to follow suit.

"This is a breakthrough for the industry," Pistol assessed. "My feeling is that if we can get Deep Throat in there and it's a success, then it could theoretically open the doors for a Debbie Does Dallas, a Devil In Miss Jones, a Candy Stripers, and then new versions of Candy Stripers and Debbie Does Dallas – and all of a sudden, we've opened up theatrical outlets to the industry, which would give us a bigger presence, more credibility... and, quite frankly, more dollars and higher production values, both of which I'd dearly like to see."

It's an event worthy of applause, both for the Arrow crew – Pistol and Interlandi – and for the Laemmle for braving mainstream criticism and presenting a classic movie in a classic format.
