When VCA’s Britney Rears hit the market a year ago, few thought it would have a major impact.
“I thought it was a pretty good movie, but I didn’t expect the hit that it was,” said its director, Will Rider.
Featuring 18-year-old blonde, Britney Rears, who had previously performed as Jessica Sweet, the title took off from the shelves like nothing VCA had seen in years.
“It really caught everyone by surprise, but we weren’t complaining,” Rider said.
Although the company won’t release sales figures, officials admit the movie was its biggest hit in years.
So it came as no surprise when VCA sister company Hustler Video announced it would produce a sequel, dubbed Britney Rears 2: I Wanna Get Laid.
With Rider on board to direct and Rears to reprise her Britney Spears-inspired character, the die was cast to catch the proverbial lightning in a bottle a second time.
“I really enjoyed doing the character because it’s somebody who’s fun and who gets to fuck a lot,” Rears said.
Playing a pop princess in pseudo parody of Britney Spears early career, Rears has gained a following thanks in part to the first movie’s novelty pop song I Wanna Get Laid, which managed to get airplay in more than 100 radio stations around the country.
“We sent the record out to 300 stations and about 100 of them decided to play it and they loved it,” Rider said.
With frequent airplays on “The Howard Stern Show,” the song gained traction and likely further helped spur sales, Rider said.
“It’s a silly song, but people loved it,” he said.
But whatever the reason, Britney Rears began flying off the shelves, reminiscent of VCA’s early days when many of its releases brought an automatic avalanche of sales.
But in 2005, with hundreds of companies cranking out product like never before, VCA was in the doldrums and in need of a major hit. And it got one in Britney.
Rears, who herself is Spears fan, understands the attraction.
“They want to see what it’s like to be Britney Spears or maybe not so much about her but about a girl like her who likes to fuck,” Rears said.
“And its funny, but it has a lot of sex and that’s why I love doing it.”
For Rider, the title’s success has to do a lot with its star, whose fresh face looks, slim body and cascading blond hair give a strong resemblance to the pop princess.
“She definitely has a lot to do with the success of the first Britney Rears,” he said.
“She has that innocence and personality that draws you in and then when she starts fucking it’s very hot.”
With plans for a possible CD in the works, Hustler Video is preparing a major public relations assault to support the new title. Already, Rears is preparing for personal appearances around the country to go with additional undisclosed events timed to coincide with the release.
As the title readies to roll out on April 11, Hustler Video officials say they are already feeling the anticipation. Retailers and distributors say they’re hearing the buzz starting to build as word spreads of the upcoming release.
It may be premature, Rider admitted, but if past experience is any example, Britney Rears 2, may score some big numbers for Hustler Video.
“Strictly speaking on the product, I think this is going to be huge,” he said. “I wrote and directed the movie, so I know.”
Taking the Britney theme a step further as we see her touring and dealing with her celebrity, Britney Rears 2 shows the teen diva trying hard to make a video while getting a pounding from a handful of studs.
Despite her seeming innocent demeanor, this Britney doesn’t mind getting a faceful of cum after riding her man hard in between video shoots and concerts.
Shy Love, who also stars in the sequel, says she’s not surprised by the first title’s success.
“She has that innocence that really attracts men and I think that’s what really works for her,” she said.
“But in a way, she has a lot of innocence in real life. When we did a three-way with her and Scott Nails, she asked what she needed to do so we guided her and it turned into a really hot scene.”
And with a cast of well known talent like Hillary Scott, Jenaveve Jolie, Sunny Lane, Nadia Styles and Eva Angelina, this latest sequel could well draw even more interest, Rider said.
With hotties Nyomi Marcela, Nikki Hilton and Kapri Styles serving as dancers and singers who manage to get in on the backstage humping, the title manages to serve up lots of hardcore sex with the laughs of the none-too bright Britney.
“It’s a comedy,” Rider said, “but it’s really about the sex and Britney getting fucked every which way.”
