CHATSWORTH, California—Hot Mess is at it again, putting a salacious spin on a Serious Subject. The same studio that won a 2015 AVN Award for Clever Title of the Year—given to 12 Inches a Slave, its best-selling DVD ever—is releasing Selma: The Untold Story.
Hot Mess will pay its own kind of tribute to Ava DuVernay's movie Selma, a cause celebre at this year's Oscars when she wasn't nominated for Best Director. And a big part of that tribute will be five interracial sex scenes that a spokesperson said the company hopes will "bring us all together in sex."
According to Howard Levine, Exile Distribution chief and head of sales for Hot Mess, "We do well with interracial, and Hot Mess has a clever way of putting a pseudo-political spin on the subject."
He added, "We hope to not offend, but if we can pick up a hundred pieces doing so, what's the harm?"
While Selma: The Untold Story doesn't actually have anything to do with Martin Luther King, it does boast some red-hot black stars—and their white partners seem to definitely enjoy the riper berry. As Levine quipped, "No matter the genre, Hot Mess scenes are always hotter than hell ... and I may be going to hell for selling this one."
Always clever with packaging, the box cover declares, "How interracial sex made us all overcome." And Levine hopes to be overcome with orders.
