Hosts of 2005 AVN Awards Show Announced

Vivid Girl Savanna Samson and comedy veteran Thea Vidale have been named co-hosts of the 2005 AVN Awards Show.

This will be Savanna Samson’s first time hosting the award show, but she is no stranger to the AVN Awards stage. She was a presenter at the 2003 AVN Awards, and was onstage again during the 2004 AVN Awards Show to accept her Best Actress–Film award for her role in Looking In.

Vivid’s Looking In also earned Samson a second AVN Award last year. Her participation in a seven-person orgy forthe film earned an award for Best Group Sex Scene–Film.

“The awards sit in a case. I have some collector Barbies and they’re in the same case, behind glass,” Samson said. “I had to childproof them, though. I have a stepdaughter. You know those stars that you get when you’re a good student? I put a silver one right over the word ‘sex’. So I won an AVN award for ‘Best Group Scene.’”

“It looks quite lovely,” she added.

“Savanna is an ideal host for the awards show,” said Gary Miller, executive producer of the AVN Awards Show, when announcing this year's hosts. "She’s beautiful, she’s witty and she’s articulate. Her prominence as Howard Stern’s favorite performer at Scores, not to mention her career as Vivid Girl, have made Savanna a marquee name within the Adult industry.”

Thea Vidale is both the first female comic and the first black comic to host the AVN Awards Show. Vidale has appeared on a number of television shows, including a 1993 stint on ABC as the star of her own series, Thea. She is also known as one of the “bluest” headliners on the circuit.

“Thea is just hilarious and her comedy will really connect with our audience,” Miller said. “We’re going to be taking her around to a number of sets so she’ll be able to see what the industry is really like, as we did with last year’s host, Jim Norton.”

For her part, Samson isn’t worried about appearing onstage in front of her peers. On the contrary, she’s anticipating that she might actually enjoy it too much.

“I’ve studied ballet; I’ve spent my life onstage and I love to perform. Of course, in the wings I can’t remember a thing – the music, the steps, the dance, nothing. But when you get out there, everything is okay.

“So I’m warning you, this year’s show might be a little bit longer than last year’s due to the fact that I really love being onstage."

This year’s hosts don’t know each other well, but both are confident that they will be able to develop a rapport before the show.

And while Vidale had yet to see any of Samson’s work, she’s seen plenty of porn in her day – although she’s never seen a film in its entirety.

“I like porn; it’s very interesting to me. I’ve yet to see a whole movie...but who ever does?” quipped Vidale. “You never hear anyone ask, ‘What happened at the end of the movie?’ when talking about a porn movie. That's because we all know what happened. Somebody came, motherfucker, somebody came.

“And if you’re discussing the ending or the middle, or even the beginning of the movie, you’re missing the point,” she added.

Vidale doesn’t have a particular favorite among porn stars, but she does admit that multiple AVN Award-winning performer Lexington Steele has caught her attention.

“I haven’t seen all [the porn stars] yet, but I think Lexington Steel is…interesting. His dick is big, but…my friend interviewed him once and he was talking about anal sex. I’m not saying that he was hitting on me, but I started to think that he was looking at me during the interview and was thinking about it.

“And I was scared. If you think you’re going to put a 12-inch dick in my ass, I’m calling the police,” Vidale warned, “because I know that’s gotta hurt. I have so much respect for women who can take something like that. Not that I haven’t fucked in the ass, but I haven’t worked with what they have.”

Speaking of what she has worked with, Vidale had a message for men who aren’t well-endowed. “Men need to stop acting like they don’t have a small dick. I know itty-bitty when I see it. If I know itty-bitty titties, than I definitely know itty-bitty dick.”

Vidale has plenty more to say to men — both those who are well-endowed and those who aren’t — and women, those who can take a 12-inch dick up their ass and those who can’t. But she’s going to save it for the stage.
