Homegrown’s Sex Machines Featured in Book

Homegrown Video’s Sex Machines line is getting more attention these days after author Timothy Archibald’s new book on the sex contraptions came out last fall.

“I just thought it was a great idea for a book, so I’m thrilled,” Homegrown’s president, Farrell Timlake, said of the coffee table book also titled “Sex Machines,” following an author’s book signing at Powell’s bookstore in Portland.

Featuring a number of machines used in the series along with others, the book also examines its inventors like Allen Stein who invented the Thrillhammer Sex Chair, now on display at the New York Sex Museum, and other inventors whose intention was not to become millionaires, but to create something special to spice up their sex lives.

“They weren’t out to make a million,” said Timlake. “They wanted to give something to their significant other.”

The book also examines the lives of inventors such as Dave Lampert, creator of the Sybian, along with Paul Gaertner, who started his own sex machine business by transforming an old pasta machine into a sex device after he was laid off from a high tech firm.

Another inventor, Eric Reynolds, tells the author about how his machine helped save his marriage.

“The book is amazing because it takes a very fresh look at something that freaks people out,” Timlake said.

Archibald and Timlake celebrated the book’s release with a party at Homegrown’s Portland, Ore., studio where Stein, other sex machine inventors, performers and other guests gathered to mark the occasion.

Some performers demonstrated the machines with apparent orgasms, before the enthusiastic crowd.

Archibald, who also attended the party, said he wanted to pay homage to those garage inventors who sometimes managed to succeed with their home-made gizmos.

Most of the contraptions, as shown in Homegrown’s series, are made up of pumping phalluses sticking out of some elaborate mechanism. Some may not have been much to look at, but they could easily have gone on display in a museum, Timlake said.

“You look at them and you see they’re like works of art,” he said.

Homegrown began its Sex Machines series in 2003 as a departure from its amateur video offerings.

“It was a chance to do something new. We were used to doing new things,” Timlake said. “We started the first creampie series, the natural bush series and handjobs, so this was another chance for us.”

And the series is in its third year and still going strong, Timlake said.

“They like the machine stuff because they feel the girl is really getting off on it. The nostrils flaring, the convulsions. You can’t fake that.”

Meanwhile, Homegrown (www.homegrownvideo.com) is preparing to issue Amateur Anal Auditions and Well Hung Amateurs.
