Goalie Entertainment, an adult retail chain with over 100 locations, recently informed adult video manufacturers that the content of the commercials on VHS and DVD titles could result in Goalie not ordering titles that otherwise would have been stocked.
Goalie screens all titles before placing orders. One of the main reasons they do so is because in certain areas of the country, their stores cannot sell titles that show certain sexual acts because of agreements with local authorities.
“For instance, we have stores in Iowa that can’t have anything with bondage,” Al Siegel, a local buyer for Goalie, explained to AVN.com. ”We have our own legal code: No fisting, no urination and no bondage.”
According to Siegel, a recent influx of commercials on DVD versions of movies that were otherwise acceptable violated Goalie’s standards, prompting the company to notify manufacturers of the problem a few days ago via a mass fax.
“I wanted the manufacturers to be aware,” Siegel said, “because sometimes people would call up and want to know why we wouldn’t order a certain title.
“Most of the time the movie was fine but the ad wasn’t. That hurts the manufactures and it hurts us, because we are always looking for more quality products to sell.”
