Having lost in its efforts to keep an adult bookstore from opening this summer, the city is drafting an ordinance that it hopes will keep other such businesses from moving in.
City Administrator Ronnie Brand said the city is working on an ordinance that would keep other adult businesses from moving into Unadilla, WMAZ-TV reported. He explained that a group called “Citizens United” is helping draft the measure. The group is also trying to close down The Lion’s Den adult store, which opened in July.
Brand said the City Council and himself wish the store had never opened.
The city had tried to keep the store from opening when it approved a moratorium on new adult businesses opening in the city just three days before it was scheduled to open. But a federal judge struck down the moratorium, allowing the store to open.
But Lannie Hamsley, a spokeswoman for Citizens United, said her group has joined with the conservative group American Family Association to try to close down The Lion’s Den.
Hamsley said the shop does not fit with the community’s standards.
