George Martin [GM Video] is back from his annual Memorial weekend jaunt on the Colorado River. The Phoenix New Times tagged along to do a story on Martin, the father of open air nude partying.
Martin: "They [New Times] did for awhile...I have no clue what happened to them. We had them out on the boat. God, they were just flabbergasted. They could not believe what went on. We were supposed to have Hustler, but we couldn't find them. Or they couldn't find us. They wanted to do something with Johnny Toxic. He's a crazy man. He was on our pontoon boat and we were going up the river. He's yelling at all these people. He got his dick out and stuff and they're laughing. So we put the boat on the sand, and we all jumped off the boat with four cameras, and the girls are pulling their bottoms down. It was just nutty stuff.
"With all the problems I've had with the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department, I must have held them at bay because they were hardly seen. It was just about 100% freedom. There must have been 6,000 people at The Sandbar. We shot almost 26 hours of tape in three days. They've attempted to shut the old Copper Canyon down. Everybody's going to a place called The Sandbar. It's about ten miles up the river going towards Loughlin, Nevada. Where the river makes a sharp right, it creates a sandbar. The sandbar's about three feet deep, so you can park your boats all around this thing. And everybody gets out and wades around in three feet of water. It's an orgy on boats and in the water.
"This year was no exception. We knew some people from Copper Canyon years ago, and they put on an enormous show up there. What I find interesting, this one guy is holding up ten 100 dollar bills for a hot body contest. And the girls get naked with dildos and everything you can imagine, and, wouldn't you call that soliciting a lewd act? It's the damnedest thing. And I'm going down for something like that. I never raised a dollar bill in my hand. We'll probably have a 3-volume release on this. We also shot at Parker Dam, about 40 miles below. I'll start editing tomorrow."
Martin says he received a phone call the other day from ABC News Nightline.
Martin: "They called me about the [Colorado] river and the First Amendment and the problems it's having. Ted Koppel probably won't take the story yet until I file a 20 million lawsuit. The San Bernardino Sheriff's department is trying to push my case past the three year-limit so I'll be time barred and not be able to sue them, civil. The civil lawsuit is that the intent on their part was to put me out of business. And we can prove it with audio tapes. I went up against Gary Penrod, the sheriff, sued him and won. There was two parts of the case, one was the Fourth Amendment, illegal search and seizure; the other part was that they had not returned my property in a reasonable length of time. The kept all my tax records. I couldn't file my income tax. It pissed off the federal judge. She went bananas and made Penrod pay $8,000 for my attorney's fees. He didn't want to do it, so my attorney filed a contempt, and the court agreed. If they didn't pay within the next few days, we were sending in a marshal, believe it or not, to the sheriff's department. They finally paid the eight grand. He's incensed as you can imagine. He's got all his dogs after me.
"We also have a preliminary hearing scheduled June 8. It's to determine whether we go to trial. It looks like we're going to a full-blown jury trial on criminal. In Copper Canyon they charged me with filming a lewd act in public and soliciting a lewd act with Candy Apples. It's not going to fly. Their only hope is to get a good jury to convict me, Candy and three of my camera people. If they don't and drop it, they're wide open, I'm going to sue them. If they do win, I can't sue them. So, they have to go through this whole thing and probably spend 400 grand doing it on a $400 ticket, by the way. I'm going to fight them all they way. If I am convicted in this silly thing, I'll go to the Supreme Court. I'll go all the way to the top.
"Nightline wants to do a whole story on all this stuff that goes on at the Colorado River that has to do with peoples' rights being abused. One of them also happens to be Fox News. They got hit by the sheriff's department and almost got their cameras confiscated. Nightline told me they'll hold back on this thing and see what happens as my trial progresses. They're going to follow it.
"At time I had my constitutional right to have a speedy trial within 45 days, as we're all supposed to. I fired my attorney, by the way, after draining me of about 50 grand and we got nowhere in the courts. I was never advised of my 45 day rights, and, because of that, this thing just kept on going and going and going. I couldn't afford him anymore. I was paying him 5 grand everytime we turned around. I have a new attorney now, so all these little preliminaries are keeping my costs down, and I'll fight this thing to the finish. As we stand now, it's another get together with the D.A. The last time, the judge said, 'I want this thing ended right now. I want this plea bargained to disturbing the peace.' At that time I got on the phone with Alan Gelbard who's my civil attorney.
"We accepted a plea bargain. [I was told we could still sue with that.] Everything was finalized. We got a phone call from the D.A. saying no it's not. They wanted to prosecute me. The whole thing started all over again, so we're at the point now where they're going to have this hearing and a trial date will be set. The whole thing is stupid, but, nevertheless, we got to go through it. It involves a whole lot of things including a plea bargain over an old paintball gun incident. I plea bargained a wrong plea. My attorney, who I fired, didn't research it. As a result, I lost my right to bear arms in the state of California for ten years. Because I pleaded a misdemeanor assault, in the state of California, if you plead guilty or no contest to an assault, you lose your right to own firearms. My attorney should have known that. He did not know that. This is unreal. Stupid shit? I'm going to write a book."
Tomorrow, Martin talks about how his legal trevails, might stem, believe it or not, from a voodoo doll. If there's any validity to it, then there will be a book.
Jack Hammer Entertainment comes out with its first feature, Jack Hammer's Biker Babes. Hammer was asked why he chose that as a theme to kick off his company line.
Hammer: "It's more what people probably expect of me. I'm the tough guy, I'm the rough guy. [Besides that, broad hints are casually dropped that Hammer's major financial backer is someone related to the biker industry.]
"We have that little prosperity going for us. We also have a contract girl named Krista [5'9" and blond]. The feature's in editing. We're going to try and come out with it in August. I did softcore and hardcore on it. We have relations already established with Spice and Playboy. The format of the feature is Jack Hammer's party. It's like a gonzo. The guys come over, and I got this big estate. We shot at this huge estate in Ventura. The script calls for me to know all these rad, biker chicks hanging around. Really beautiful, elite biker girls, not scumbags. Guys are visiting me from out of town and commenting about my having my party house back."
Hammer takes the guys on tour, they spot some hot babe and start pushing the pedal to the medal. Hammer doesn't do any sex scenes, he just pairs people up and sends them along on their merry way. For the most part, Hammer used guys and girls who are partners in real life to avoid the usual, "I don't want to work with this guy" blather.
Hammer: "A lot of the stuff I'm doing I learned from John Leslie a long time ago. Not too much dialogue, just get to the fucking. I'm happy with this one, but the next one has already got me foaming at the mouth. What I learned is just sit back and watch what everybody else has done. I've seen what John Leslie's done and what he's won awards for. Later on, I'll work on some features."
Hammer's also working on a notion that's not going to gain him popularity in the distribution process. He intends to sell his product direct.
Hammer: "We have three to four different websites hooked up, ready to go, bouncing off each other. We're advertising there. We're advertising in AVN. We're working with the general public, bypassing distribution. The way I feel about it, is, I want to help the main guy who sits at home and watches adult movies all the time. It annoyed me, working on the distribution end, with the other companies I was with before.
I watched and asked, 'They're going out the door for that cheap a price?' I just went to the video store and it's like five times that. What's going on here? Why don't we just sell it direct to the dealers themselves and cut the middleman out? IF GVA or IVD would pick up 1500 pieces off me and pay me cash right now, for them, I'd have no problem. I watched what everybody did down the line. I watched distribution companies. I thought, wait a minute, let me think of something faster. Video companies are always stressing waiting for their nets 30's, their net 60's, this to come back, that to come back. I'm going, wait a minute, are you guys crazy, why don't you sell straight to the public? They'll be jumping on it. Just give them good prices. It'll work out good. After this one's done, we'll see the revenues on it and blast out a few more. Then it'll be a worldwide thing."

\n David Christopher's shoot was busted last Friday. It was the first day of a three-day shoot starring Kim Chambers and Sana Fey.
Christopher: "We rented [photographer] Hans Rudelstein's house for a Big Top shoot. Basically I was acting as a consultant. It was called Busty Pom Pom Girls. Hans was selected to do the stills. His house/backyard is nice. I got the permit. Jim South, however, tells me it might be a 'hot' house. I asked him what do you mean. 'They don't kind of like him [Rudelstein],' South told me. I said, 'Can I shoot there or not. You know me for years. If I shouldn't shoot, tell me.'
"He goes I really can't tell you what to do. 'If you do everything right, it'll be cool.' I said, 'Jim, I always keep to the rules.' We get the permit. It's 11:30 [Friday morning]. We still haven't started our first shot. There were numerous reasons for that. To make a long story short, I get a call from Jim. Jim tells me there's too many cars parked on the street, you better get them out of there. The film people are going to come and shut you down. We get all the cars off the street. Everything's fine.
"At 12:30, one of the film permit guys comes down. We have not started one shot yet. He comes to me and says, 'We're hearing noise.' I said, 'Excuse me?' 'We're hearing noise, sexual noise.' I said, 'We've not started shooting even one shot, yet. The only noise you hear is how I'm talking to you. That cannot be possible. Someone has it out for Hans.' I said, 'Let me ask you a question, hypothetically. What happens if somebody doesn't like this guy, or somebody in the neighborhood doesn't, and they just call in and say there's noise, when in reality, there's none.' He [Rudelstein] as 12 foot walls. The only way you could see something is by sneaking through bramble. It's almost impossible.
"The permit guys goes to me, 'Well, in reality, you're in trouble.' If they come two times, they can revoke the permit. They've come once. He's warning me. I haven't started yet, and he's already warning me. I don't think too many people in this neighborhood are in love with Hans, the fact that he has only black guys coming to his house, doesn't make it so great. They're probably prejudiced.
"We do the shoot, three scenes, 11 girls. They're all cheerleaders. No one makes much noise. I tell them all to keep it down. We finish. Everyone gets paid, we're putting the stuff away. The P.A. is putting his stuff in the car. The next thing you know, three undercovers come in, 8pm. Everything was done and wrapped. The cameras were put away. Everything was put away. I'm in the backyard. My name is on the permit as the producer. They go to the P.A., they tell him to stop. This is the second call now. There's cars in the street. The people who had come late parked in the street. It was bullshit. They said they heard sounds, the were able to see things, etc. Sure, right. They start asking me all these questions. They run everyone through with the licenses. One of the guys comes to me and says, 'We're not after you. We're after Hans.' We just happened to be there.
"They found someone with drugs, too. There was a German documentary crew there. They were doing a story on Big Top. There was lots of extra people, there, friends of friends. I didn't know half the people by that time. You know what happens when extra people come around. It was just causing me trouble. They were getting in the way. Me and Hans go outside. This kid is being handcuffed. They got some kid who they saw throwing some stuff [presumably, coke and crystal meth] in the couch. He was one of the visitors on the set. There was one cop who was really being obnoxious. He said drugs and porno go together. This drug thing did not help. A 'good cop' said to me, 'You cooperate, we take pictures in the house, nobody's going to be searched. Everything's going to be cool.'
"I said, officer, we're sorry what happened. We didn't know anything about this. Do whatever you have to do. They're searching and taking pictures. I've got a court date to appear. It says on it, 'No permit.' They let everyone else go. They searched some bags, and that's the end of Hans' house. The bottom line is we had stopped shooting one hour before they came. I think maybe they were waiting.
"The cops confiscated the tapes. They gave the cameraman the address where to pick the tapes up. I think the reason they picked the tapes up is because of the drugs.
"I was told ever since the [local TV] news show featured those houses hosting porn shoots, that they've [the police] been looking for houses that shoot a lot of porno and are going after them. A couple of major shoots have been busted which haven't been reported."
This is Hans Rudelstein's account of what happened.
Rudelstein: "This whole thing seemed orchestrated, to be honest with you. Big Top Video had rented the house for a shoot, for three scenes outdoors. I own the house. This hasn't been a problem in the past. I've been renting out with permits before. I have an 8' foot Palisade fence surrounding my property so to make sure nobody can look in unless they climb up. There was a lot of people here. There was some people here I didn't know. I think there was a total of at least 25 people, which was as big a shoot as I've ever had. In the afternoon before the first scene had actually started, I got a call from Jim South's office wanting to talk to David Christopher who was producer. Sam Xavier, the owner of Big Top and his daughter were here, too, as executive producers. Jim had called to say they had gotten a call from the permit office about a complaint or something. They told David they would shut the shoot down if the noise persisted. David made sure that everyone moved their cars. There's a public park where they put them. They hadn't started shooting yet and they were already complaining about noise. We were talking normally.
"My street is a cul de sac, so there was hardly anyone here. The people who live in the neighborhood were at work. A younger guy from the permit office showed up and talked to David at length. It seemed to me that after that conversation was over, that things were settled. We thought everything was fine and dandy. We shot the three scenes. They were done shortly past seven. All the scenes were in the can. Shortly past eight, I come out of the bathroom and I'm meeting a whole bunch of vice cops in my living room. They asked me if I was the owner. They told me I had violated all kinds of rules and laws. They said they were going to cite me. It was obvious they were really adamant. They cited David and me to come to court July 16. They cited us for filming without a permit which was bull because we had one.
"I came to America because I figured when you work hard and make a lot of money, you've earned your freedom. This is my own piece of land. The people I rented out to had a permit. Everything was followed correctly, but they still came in. The way they went about this really bothers me. I think this is something definitely for Free Speech. They came in here. One of the lady cops took polaroids of my whole situation - my living room, my dining room, my kitchen, photographing every angle, photographing everybody, taking pictures of everybody, taking ID.
"The main vice cop said to me I was actually diminishing the neighborhood but doing what I was doing. I thought having some pretty ladies in the yard would enhance it not diminish it. I thought that was outrageous. He kind of threatened that the next time they came back there would be arrests and equipment was going to be confiscated. I asked what the problem was. He said someone saw the action, a girl/girl. I told him that was impossible, unless you walk on stilts or look out of a helicopter. You can't see in here. I've had shoots in the past and never a problem.
"It was a big harassment. What bothers me, too, is how poorly Sam Xavier handled the situation. Usually when you rent out the house, you get paid. I was supposed to shoot stills two days-in-a-row on this. I had already turned in the film for the boxcover and everything [from the first day]. The next morning, Saturday, Sam took me aside and said he didn't want me to shoot that day [at The Studio]. I asked why, didn't I do an okay job? He goes, 'We're afraid that the vice cops are going to show up here when they find out you're here.' That was totally ridiculous. I asked when was I going to get paid for the location. He said when I get my tapes back. They were confiscated. I said if you don't get the tapes back, then what. Am I still going to get paid. Sam said you'll have to sue me. That didn't sit very well with me. A producer runs the risk of getting shut down anywhere in any situation. I don't thing a producer has the right to deny payment to people who have already worked for him.
"I had 25 people trampling around here and using the place. I had a right to get paid. I don't think that was very cool. This whole thing was a setup. They waited and hung outside all day. They waited till the shoot was over. Unfortunately one guy that I didn't even know, I guess he was a friend of a girl who worked on the shoot, got arrested for cocaine or something. I guess they saw him trying to hide it. I didn't witness that. I was in the restroom. They took the guy outside in handcuffs. They really made a big deal about it. I thought everything was within the rights of the permit that we had.
"This is Toluca Lake, and maybe they don't want people to shoot here. But it's my property. I would appreciate help from Free Speech on this. This is general principle. I came here from Europe thinking that as long as I abided by the rules, nobody would bother me. That does not seem to be the case. Freedom was not free on Friday."
Rudelstein said he had a complaint in the past. "I had spot checks here before," Rudelstein says. "But nobody ever tried to close a shoot down. I don't think I have a 'hot house.' It's not like I've been renting out like crazy. Very rarely here and there in the four years I've owned the house. Maybe a dozen times. I'd really like to get to the bottom of this and who initiated this. The way it looks I have to give up the thought of renting again."
\n Though she swore up and down that she wasn't going to, Digital Playground contract gal Rocki Roads did her first anal - with Alex Sanders. New contract gal Sadie Sexton's maiden video feature for the company also set the Digital production crew on its ears. Playground's Samantha Lewis provides the finer details.
Lewis: "I've never seen the crew get excited. The guys were going mygod. She [Sexton] really transforms through camera. She was with Fallen Angel for about a year. They had her a completely different style. They did her makeup completely different. Her hair was all chopped off. [Sexton is wearing her hair long, now.]
"When we got her, we said we want slight makeup. She's got the most amazing eyes and do it light. That's what we got. We want her to keep this look. The last two weeks she's walked into clubs that she's danced at and people have said what in the hell happened. We're really excited about it. And next to Rocki, the blond and the brunette, it'll do good. She's not stupid. She's in this for the business. She's smart, she's witty and she's so eager to do what I want her to do. She just bought a $300,000 house in Vegas, she takes care of her money, she works out every day. She can't do drugs because she had open heart surgery when she was a baby. So she's straight. I'm saying what a relief.
Everytime she goes into a town to dance, she gets herself on every radio show. She really networks. She's in Vegas and comes here once or twice a week. We sent her over to Penthouse. I think they're going to shoot her. They fell in love with her. This is going to work out very nicely.
[Sexton will be signing at the Digital booth for the summer Expo show.]
"Rocki did her first anal. We haven't come up with a title for it yet. Alex Sanders came and poured his charm on her. She said she'd never do an anal. Alex was hired as talent. [Joone directed.] We were shooting in a 'secret' location in Malibu. It was a very high budget feature. It was a two-day shoot, and we had Rocki teamed up with Alex to do a scene. Theirs was the third scene. While we were shooting the other two scenes and doing stills, one of my techs comes by and says they're out having sex out in the pool. They're out relaxing in the sun at this gorgeous pool that overlooks the ocean. They're on a raft. All of a sudden, I seem them making out. And then I see penetration. My director yells telling them to stop. We were worried that we wouldn't get a good scene. I yelled, 'Alex, what in the hell are you doing?' He just looked at me, 'I'm okay. I'm okay.' So they stopped, and five minutes later they started again. Well, he was priming her: 'Come on, just let me stick it in, blah, blah, blah.' He got her so hot, she came up to me about an hour later and said, 'I want to do an anal scene with Alex.' It was hot. He tore her up. They came through and Alex was an animal. He was so out of control. They did it outside at sunset on the grass. It was a pretty steamy scene. Rocki said she would never do anal. Never, ever, ever. Sanders poured on his charm and she just fell for it.
[Digital has a condom policy BUT Roads made an exception for Sanders. The tests, according to Lewis, were all current, but, more interestingly, Roads has always had a crush on Sanders.]
"This is what's so amazing about Rocki. Her paysite's rockiroads.com going up in about another month. It will convert into a beautiful paysite. It's in construction right now and should be done by next month. We're doing Nikki Tyler's, nikkityler.com we've got Rocki Roads and now we got Sadie Sexton's, sadiesexton.com. We have full-time artists in here, now, and we're doing our own paysites. Rocki Roads is not even a paysite [yet]. She gets hundreds of thousands of hits. It's amazing, her fan base. She's on the road so much that her fans truly do love her. I've got boxes and boxes of letters: 'Rocki, when are you going to do your first anal?'
[Roads will be appearing at LA Erotica and the summer Expo.]
Digital Playground releases Nikki Tyler's Virtual Sex at the end of July.
Lewis: "It is Nikki's first anal, ever. This is one where you don't see the guy. It's a POV, and the viewer thinks they're the one doing her. The guy's never seen. The guy's doing her the whole time but the only thing you see is his penis. [The mystery penis is being kept a state secret.]
\n Scotty Schwartz posts some observations from last week's Hustler Jail Babes Party: "I witnessed Mara Pleasures running, crying frantically out of a limo after the party at the Rainbow. She ran right to her friend/manager/whatever, DK to explain what had happened. "Supposedly", Kid Vegas, was in the limo with Dominic [the director/producer] cane in hand, when Kid Vegas told her to give a BJ to this very overweight gentlemen that she didn't know. He said "I'm OK, I know the guys". Mara, immediately said she wouldn't and was promptly thrown out of the limo. She said, "I'm an adult film star, I shouldn't be treated this way!!!".
Have we ever heard this line before??? I guess three months or so in the biz, and she's a star, by a year I'd say she'd be a legend!
Upon finding DK, her mascara was running down her face, and she was in a panic. She said, "How could Kid Vegas do this to me? I just gave him $500 because he asked me for it, and now he wants me to blow some guy?". After some small talk, DK went to look for the limo and apparently couldn't/didn't see it. I am sure there is more, call all the players, and you'll get the rest. Also, seen at the Rainbow, Ron Jeremy with some woman his own age, what in the hell is the world coming to??? Tony Tedeschi was with an adorable girl named Rose who's not in the biz, but is a fan of his...geez, could it be his hairstyle or his mammoth penis? you pick....
Also there: Sharon "I'll have a Shirley Temple" Mitchell [good for her]; Julian St. Jox with Violet and Charmain Star - both with hands either in his pants - or all over each other. Sasha "Now I look like Burt with grey hair" Gabor; Amia "Where is DK anyway" Amore; D [I am the most reliable manager in the biz] K, and Capri "I'm 19 and getting to drink" Cameron.
