GayUniverse Launches Hundreds of New Local Boards

GayUniverse.com now has more than 650 new local boards for U.S. cities. Known for its state and international message boards, GayUnivese.com has added hundreds of new pages to its site to accommodate gay men looking to hook up in local cities. The site also plans to launch more than 100 new local international city boards in May.

The new local initiative is a solution to the increasing number of gay men looking to connect outside of major cities, according to the company. While the majority of the gay population is concentrated in big cities, nearly 41 percent of gay men live in small suburbs and rural communities, as reported by the Gay/Lesbian Consumer Online Census. GayUniverse.com hopes to provide a free outlet for this often-overlooked segment of the population.

“For many of these men, the Internet is their only avenue to the gay community,” said Tony Hauser, marketing director for GayUniverse.com. “We hope to strengthen this tie by introducing hundreds of local city boards and allow people to connect in their neighborhood.”

According to CNN.com, more than 55 million gay men worldwide find refuge on the Net as a means to communicate with other gay men in the absence of bars or public spaces.
