-- Financially speaking, 1997 was a decent year for the Free Speech Coalition. According to the organization's annual financial statements, the non-profit trade association gained over $4,000 in assets in 1997, bring their total assets to just over $84,000. \nAlso on the rise was the membership revenue which figured in at $173,000 --- a $40,000 increase from 1996. So it seems the additional moneys spent on advertising and public relations, which more than doubled from $31,000 in '96 to $67,000 in '97, was not spent in vain. \nThe only noticeable decrease that might raise some concern is the drop in fundraising dollars, which was a little over $17,000 less than last year.\nBut even with fundraising decrease, the organization is in great financial condition and should be commended for such excellent management in '97, especially since during the same year they reduced their own administrative costs by almost $10,000. With luck, the '98 report will be equally impressive.
